Booooooig! Booooooing! (cue 6 Milion Dollar Man music)

While I admire the hell out of someone fighting through such physical calamities the advances in technology are fast getting to the point where the mechanical equipment creates an unfair advantage...go figure.

Sure have come a long way from wooden legs and arm hooks, just in my lifetime.

I think I am going to have my asshole replaced by a rocket and try to make the team.

He has absolutely no chance of winning a medal. He may not even be able to run a qualifying time.

I think the point is that the courts found that his prosthetics do not give him any advantage. With so many people owning their victimhood in the world, a guy like this gets every bit of respect I can give him.

Go for it Oscar.

No, the court found that the Governing body could not prove that there was an advantage. Big diff.

Bottom line is that mechanicals can give an advantage.

For example: the wheelchair marathon record is 1:51. The able body WR is around 2:04.

You cannot tell me that having carbon fiber springs on your legs does not help.

There is able body divisions and then other for aputees etc.

This is the same thing as the girls wanting to be in the boyscouts IMO.

I know this girl, and she is the first woman to finish the Ironman as a amputee. She is a freeken stud. I have huge respect for her (and this guy). But she qualifies as an amputee. That is her division.

Again, you cannot tell me that there is a mechanical advantage. I do not care what some freeken geek from MIT says.

Bad example. I can't see Oscar resting his legs on the down side of a hill the way a person in a wheelchair can rest his arms and just coast.

I can't see how a person missing half of his legs and a critical joint (the ankles) can have a advantage. Sorry

Since March, Pistorius has delivered startling record performances for disabled athletes at 100 meters (10.91 seconds), 200 meters (21.58 seconds) and 400 meters (46.34 seconds). Those times do not meet Olympic qualifying standards for men, but the Beijing Games are still 15 months away. Already, Pistorius is fast enough that his marks would have won gold medals in equivalent women?s races at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Pistorius?s time of 46.56 in the 400 earned him a second-place finish in March against able-bodied runners at the South African national championships. This seemingly makes him a candidate for the Olympic 4x400-meter relay should South Africa qualify as one of the world?s 16 fastest teams.

I'd say he could well qualify. It would be a joke to see him running the Olympics, though.
Turning the Olympics to some kind of freak show made for TV. Wait...............on second thought, maybe it's just the thing for the
Red Chinese Olympics!
