Dont Cut your grass - go to jail

I love to do my yard, and feel that those who don't put any effort forward to cut it are just plain lazy. That being said, I don't agree with putting them in jail. Instead, just put up some kind of humiliating police tape around their yard and bring in some cattle to chomp on the grass. Fuck it.

That's funny. My boss' 110 acres is surrounded by a ten year old development. Never heard anyone complain about rats or mice, and the grass that is about ten feet from their houses is over four foot tall as I type this. It's the same every year.

Hell, my apt. borders a large, unkept field. I've yet to see a mouse or rat. I'd also think the stray cat population in any decent sized city would quickly notice an increase in food in a nearby yard.

Yeah, we are still trying to get the city to do something about our other neighbor. They have a pile of mulch that was dumped in their front pathway leading to their front door about 5 years ago. It has yet to be moved. I don't want to know how many mice and vermin nest in there. All I know is I have put mouse poison in my garage and have killed 2 mice this spring.

Then again there is a rumor the guy that lives there has been in jail that time (which explains why we never see anyone over there and the car in the driveway has never been moved).

He is probable in jail cuz he never mowed his front yard. (The city mows it every couple of months)

And I know what ya thinking... landscaping elitist... You damn right! If the wife forces me to cut my lawn then everyone else better too :biggrin:

ugh... jailtime for failure to beautify your property... unless their is evidence that you are fostering pests this is completely bullshit, and I dont even have a lawn but I'm not real fond of being told what to do with my property.

but if the person not cutting their grass is impacting the value of my property - and when that is the case i think we (community) have a right to tell you what to do with it

If you have a "right" to tell people what to do with their private property, then it ceases to be private property.

Plenty of things affect property values, but that doesn't mean that it's a criminal offense. A neighbor that lets his house go into foreclosure, a town that decides to put in a landfill just up the street from your house, a newer and nicer development opening a couple miles away, a shopping center closing up shop. None of these things result in jail time, I don't see how it is a remotely reasonable punishment.

Didn't these types of situations used to be handled with a neighborly visit or a friendly note mentioning that the yard was getting out of hand. I hate to see government intervention in situations like this.

Just as an FYI...

If the house is "in foreclosure" its the responsibility of the bank/mortgage servicer to maintain the property. Beleive me, jailtime is on the list of things execs can be sanctioned with. And, much like this, its rarely used.

Remember, you can get jailtime for a parking ticket. Its just not common.
