David Bowens left as a free agent in the offseason opening the door for Roth to start opposite Jason Taylor this season. The Dolphins as a practice, do not publish offseason depth charts so there isn't anything "penciled in" at the moment. The addition of Porter will most likely give the Dolphins more of a traditional 3-4 look with Jason Taylor more of a hybrid type player such as the Leo the Bucks use on Saturdays. Roth has an excellent shot at starting as long as he's healthy.

Good deal, I've always been excited to watch him take off in the NFL. I'm kind of surprised that it has taken him this long to break into the starting lineup, although I'm not overly surprised since I figured his upside might be limited due to the fact he has been roiding like a madman ever since high school. I would be surprised if athletically, he is that much more impressive then he was as a senior in high school.

Either way with Ginn and Roth, chalk me up as a dolphins fan in the AFC.

-field observations from Tuesday morning's practice:
? Call it the connection of the future. Undoubtedly the highlight of a dull morning workout consisting mostly of special-team work was rookie quarterback John Beck throwing a gorgeous 50-yard pass to rookie receiver Ted Ginn Jr. in the end zone. Of course, we wouldn't exactly say the ''connection of the future'' is going to be dealing with mediocre coverage from cornerbacks Shirdonya Mitchell and Tuff Harris. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful connection.
? The veterans didn't do anything in 7-on-7 or team drills Tuesday. Instead, it seemed like a rather mild practice to say the least. Veterans mostly participated in walk-through drills. It was a hot afternoon, but we're not exactly sure what the reason for the limited work. We'll check with Cameron on that one.
? Two plays after Beck's touchdown, Beck was brought back to his rookie lessons, as he couldn't find an open receiver after checking off three guys. Not that he deserves too much blame. His targets weren't exactly helping him much.
? Lorenzo Booker showed the reason he could be a very dangerous weapon in the open field. On two plays Tuesday, Beck dumped short passes off to Booker, who then made a few jukes that could have sparked big gains in a game-like situation. We're not entirely sure how Booker would handle some hits (if he's going to go down easy), but if he can make some of these moves in one-on-one situations, it's going to be highly beneficial for the Dolphins' offense.
? Tight end Courtney Anderson is big. Really big. Even from our perch about 100 yards from where the Dolphins were going through team drills, Anderson looked appealing and imposing on one particular catch from Beck.
? The Dolphins are expected to go through more team drills in Tuesday night's practice than they did in the morning, so it should be more beneficial for fans who want to attend. Also, at 6:15 p.m., players will hold an autograph signing session at the practice facility. Practice will begin about 7 p.m.

Getting a great feeling about the improvement on offense this season. Go Teddy!

Watching the game v. Jacksonville (TiVo'd from NFL Network), defense looks good. Holiday made a huge hit on Byron Leftwich and was called for a "blow to the head." Is there any bigger BS call in sports? Does the QB not wear a helmet too?

Thank the 80's Steelers for that one. Every time they played Cincinnati someone would try to rip Ken Andersons helmet off, with his head still in it.

Some of those penalties are good calls due to the vulnerability of a guy in a passing motion, but during a normal hard, aggressive tackle if a guy rides up where the top of his helmet might hit the QB's facemask or chin, should be no penalty.

defense looks good

Thats without 5 starters also (Taylor, Thomas, Traylor, Porter, Goodman). Again its just preseason but the 'Phins D should be top 3 this season. The offense only needs to be top 16 to make the playoffs. Right now though thats one hell of a stretch.

Shawn Crable 11/22/06 says hi. Its a legit call 9 out of 10 times imo. These guys are too damn big and fast to be allowing open season on head to head shots. The NFL does not want a death on national TV or any of its stars saying "I'm batman" on the sidelines instead of entertaining fans.

Decade too late. It was the 70's Raiders, most noteably Jack Tatum ironically enough, that started the ball rolling on limiting blows to the head. Of course then it was no forearm shivers/clothselines and it evolved from there.

Its looking like Glenn Dorsey, LSU. The run defense is absolutely pathetic! I never would have dreamed that both Taylor and Thomas would have went into the tank like they have, granted Thomas is hurt. Coming into this season if you woul've told me the offense is averaging @20pts per game, I'd say we were 3-1 or 4-0. Disgusting, downright disgusting.:sick1:

Good deal for all sides. Dolphins get good value in return, Chargers need talent at WR, and Chambers needs a fresh start.

If I'm miami, give me Adrian Arrington in the 2nd next april over Chambers. This season is obviously already over.
