The Dolphins terminated the contracts of DE Kevin Carter and OG Jeno James today. The also tendered the contracts of S Yeremiah Bell, WR/KR Wes Welker, QB Cleo Lemon and P Donnie Jones. Cam is definitely in overhaul mode which looks like we're heading for a youth movement in a lot of areas. This only makes the draft that much more of a mystery in my opinion. Heres the link.

Patriots trade for Miami WR Welker

Spurning the risk that would have come with signing Miami receiver/returner Wes Welker to a restricted-free-agent offer sheet, the New England Patriots instead acquired Welker on Monday afternoon for two picks in the 2007 draft.

Signing Welker to the offer sheet would have meant Miami could have matched the offer and kept him or that it could have let New England acquire Welker in exchange for a second-round pick only. Instead, the Patriots will surrender their second- and seventh-round choices. It's also likely under this scenario that New England will have to lay out less cash to sign Welker long term.

Dang. They got Welker and gave away more than TO cost. A 2nd Rounder and a 7th Rounder. Looks like a good deal for Miami.

It's a late second rounder and we have 2 firsts this year, so it doesn't hurt us that much... And we are getting a proven commodity vs. a rookie that will have a learning curve...

With the way the Dolphins have been pissing away 2nd round picks lately for A.J. Feeley and Daunte Culpepper (I guess the jury is still out on Daunte though), it is nice to see Miami actually pick up an extra 2nd rounder for a change...

Do you guys think this makes it more of a possibility that we take Ginn if he is available?

Yes. If he is available, there is no way we don't take him. Unless, unless, Cameron goes for Quinn, but I don't see it. He may take a QB in the Second round with one of the two second rounders we have.:)

The Dolphins pre-draft deals are far from done. Cam and Wayne were basically waiting out the huge signings to address certain needs. Also remember Cleo Lemon played for Cam in San Diego so his feeling is that we have two servicable QB's if Culpepper is healthy. The running game is going to be our staple so some explosive receivers are going to fit in better at this point with what we have than Welker did. Welker's loss definitely opens the door to bring in TGII and an immediate return specialist steps on board as well as an instant offensive threat. I'm not sold on Quinn and if we're going to groom a QB I'd rather go second round anyway and pick up someone in the first round that can provide a spark right away.

Dolphins Now is hinting that the Dolphins may be looking at a young QB in trade before the draft. If its David Carr I like it. Anyone else I'd rather wait for the draft and maybe second round. If the Dolphins were to pick up Carr via trade and pick up, say Teddy Ginn in the first, I might just have a fit of drunken-happiness. The Carr deal has been a rumor but now that Schaub is going to Texas, who knows it could come about.

That is what I have been seeing on forums, and I would be so happy if this happened it's not even funny.

Am I the only person who thinks that trading up for Quinn is down right stupid? I don't want him at the 9 spot. I really want us to draft Ginn. Also, if Troy is there in the third I would take him. Obviously I am biased, but he is such a steal after the second round.

Its not looking good. The Dolphins passed on Carr, which is a big mistake in my opinion, unless they think Culpepper is going to be back to form. I doubt it. The Dolphins are currently working on two FA linemen and I look for them to sign at least one more before the draft. Ricky will probably regain his eligibility and be invited to camp.

Teddy not running might have hurt his stock a little with the clubs. No way in hell should it have but perception is reality come draft day, and thats why teams that suck will always suck and teams with rich history remain rich with history. Until the proper adjustments are made in the front offices of bad ball clubs they remain bad on draft day. The Bengals didnt get better until Marvin Lewis came along. We'll have to give Cam Cameron some time before we judge him on his draft ability. Maybe he can do with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams some of what he did with LT.

Dolphins looking at many prospects

Late next week, the Dolphins also will play host to Ted Ginn Jr., his father said Monday. The visit is expected to take place April 19 or 20, Ginn Sr. said.
Ginn. Jr., who is far more likely to be available with the Dolphins' ninth overall pick than Quinn or Russell, is a speedy threat with potential to replace Wes Welker as the team's kick returner.

''I'm all for fast guys, no matter what position they play,'' Mueller said during February's scouting combine. ``I think teams have to defend you differently if you have the element of speed. So we're going to always look to upgrade team speed.'

Looks like the 'Phins will be drafting a Buckeye this season.

"The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the Dolphins are still trying to dismantle their roster from last season. Wide receiver Marty Booker is now on the trading block. The willingness to part with Booker could mean the team has targeted a receiver with the No. 9 pick. The leading candidate would be Ohio State speedster Ted Ginn Jr., who recently visited Dolphins headquarters. "

- Mel Kiper had Gonzalez going to Miami in the second round if they draft Levi Brown in the 1st.

-They have even targeted Antonio Pittman for the second or third round as a future stud and backup to Ronnie Brown.
