Does MSU have any chance versus Penn State?

"In 1997, the Lions were 9-1 when they traveled to Spartan Stadium. They lost, also 49-14, to an opponent that had just dropped four of its previous five games."
That was the game that began Michigan State's run of 9-1 against Top-10 teams, including a perfect 6-0 in East Lansing, and 7-0 when the Spartans enter the game unranked.
Sep. 17, 2005 Michigan State 44 v (10) Notre Dame 41 (OT) South Bend
Nov. 13, 2004 Michigan State 49 v ( 4) Wisconsin 14 East Lansing
Nov. 8, 2003 ( 7) Ohio State 33 v (14) Michigan State 23 Columbus
Nov. 3, 2001 Michigan State 26 v ( 6) Michigan 24 East Lansing
Nov. 11, 2000 Michigan State 30 v ( 9) Purdue 10 East Lansing
Jan. 1, 2000 ( 9) Michigan State 37 v (10) Florida 34 Orlando
Oct. 9, 1999 (11) Michigan State 34 v ( 3) Michigan 31 East Lansing
Nov. 7, 1998 Michigan State 28 v ( 1) Ohio State 24 Columbus
Sep. 12, 1998 Michigan State 45 v (10) Notre Dame 23 East Lansing
Nov. 29, 1997 Michigan State 49 v ( 4) Penn State 14 East Lansing

I don't know if I agree with that.

Stanton is too good of a player and competitor to mail it in

Definitely agree about Stanton and a few others...but all I keep hearing is that a deal to buyout JLW is under way and the team is not too upset about it.

I just think there is more going on in Sparty than we are being told.

Definitely...but knowing what is going on in EL with the team and staff, I'm not sure if just winning a ballgame is enough incentive to turn the team around.

MSU has already closed shop for the year.
I don't think so. I think they win this one. MSU does this every year, sometimes for only 2 games, sometimes for more. PSU at home is a game they will fight till the end.

As much as it pains us all to remember it, a loaded tOSU team played MSU in '98 and wound up playing Arizona State and out of the NC running. Go Green, Go White.
1998 was the first year of the BCS ... OSU wound up playing Texas A&M in the Sugar Bowl. The ASU game was '96/'97, and OSU could have received the AP crown if FSU hadn't rolled over against the Gators.

Will 6 and 5 get them bowl eligible?

At any rate... this is a 100% head game... we know if they are motivated, MSU can play with people, especially at home... MIchigan State has almost nothing to lose, and could possibly be motivated by sending Penn State out of the BCS (Which is what is going to happen if they Lose)... but, having said that... 21 is right if Penn State goes up early...MSU will fold like a taco... this is one of those games that the longer Michigan State hangs around, the more denagerous they become.... hopefully PSU will come in a little tight.

penn state is a different team away from the confines of their dipshit fanbase.
actually, I think that PSU has the most well behaved fans of any team in the Big 10. I attended a game there once and it was a great experience...and this was in 1997 when both teams were in the top 5. I've known other scUM fans and Illinois fans and they say the same thing - PSU fans are really respectful of the game and other fans. They usually don't act like jerks unless they have reason to.

well we're all glad you had such a glorious experience. I went in the early 90's and had a good time at the stadium, but experienced quite the opposite living in the state. You might want to read up about this year, like how our band was assaulted by projectiles and didn't end up performing to protect their safety. There were tons of stories about extremely rude/confrontational experiences in the stands as well.

I don't think we have any room to point fingers, but they are far from classy.

I'll be sitting here with fingers crossed, rubbing my buckeye and lighting a candle to the saint of lost cuases. Logic tells me, "no way," my heart tells me, "that's why they play the game." Go Bucks! Go Spartans!

You're making the sound pick, 21. I will continue to hope against hope that MSU comes out as a typical MSU team... wild card. I hope they put it all together and play up to the level of their compeitition. PSU should destroy MSU. But, if any team has a history of spoiler in the Big 10, I'll take MSU.
