The big priority at the office today is the holiday potluck in a few weeks. I made this one dish a few years ago and I have been told I have to bring it every year. I asked my assistant if I have to bring that same dish and she told me that if I want everyone to like me I did.

We then began a conversation as to whether it mattered if people like you. Personally, I do not care too much if people like me. I'm pretty darn comfortable and secure with who I am.

Does it matter to you whether people like you?

Depends who hates you. If it is some 3rd shift Level 1 techi., then who gives a shit...If you are a looking for a promotion and the GM hates you, then I would care...

Yes, at least you should.

I don't lose any sleep over pissing someone off, but it's wise to never burn any bridges. You never know who you'll encounter from your past out of the blue in ten years that could be a hook-up for something sweet. Job hunting, buying a house or a car, or just getting good service at your favorite bar or restaurant are all easier (and cheaper) if you're not an ass. :biggrin:

You'll really wish you were well liked if you ever decide to get into sales yourself, or own your own business ... or want your own kids to think your life was actually spent doing something when they're delivering your eulogy to the only four people you know. :tongue2:

I would rather be liked than be Tibor. Do you actually think the people in your office wouldn't like you if you bring something else? When we have potlucks at work I try to change up what I bring. Some people might like one thing, but who's to say they won't like something else just as much?

I wouldn't say it's important to me that everyone like me. But, if do happen to come across someone who doesn't like me, I find myself lying awake in bed at night trying to figure out how to win them over. Then, I constantly kiss their ass to show them how great they are. I generally change my wardrobe, dressing like them, change my haircut to look like the.... little things like that. Every now and then, I come across a really tough nut, and they still don't like me. I then turn my attention to killing them......... I guess I'm pretty much the same as anyone else.

edit: speaking of potlucks...we had one once, so at lunchtime, I left a little early and went to Taco Bell. I got 12 soft tacos for the lunch.

Yes and no. It makes life/work much easier if people like you, or at least get along with you. I care in that sense, especially at work. Plus, it's hard to make any friends if nobody likes you... But overall, I guess I don't care- I go about my business and do what I have to do, and if someone doesn't like it, then I don't care.
