These bring back bad memories... but very related to this thread... Two years ago I was doing 400 on the bench... and got hurt.. they found out is was a pinched nerve in my neck... but the pain was in the shoulder and bicep... couldn't lift for 5 mths... when I play with 300 now, it feels like a ton... can't even imagine 610... that's BIG TIME strong

Don't forget, they play with these max's. It's not like he lifted 610, they use multiple reps at a lower weight to judge or estimate a max.

I know they don't like the guys doing 1 rep maxes because of the potential for injury. My guess is he did 6 reps of 525. That equates to 610 pounds. That's a TON of weight. wow.
I lift weights for twenty years and I have never heard 6 reps of 525 equates to 610...what kind of mathmatics is that? A baseball coach once said that "baseball is 90% mental and 50% physical"...you and that coach have something in common. They don't put estimates on the board at OSU, please check your source. Hey Tibor, if someone stands in the Seven Eleven where you work and drinks a 16oz Coke and all the three refills, do you charge him a six pack???

It's One Rep projections are actually very common

here is a pratial cut out from
http://www.criticalbench.com/chart.htm

Maximum Lift Reference Table
The following is a chart that can be used to determine your projected maximum without performing a 1 repetition max. Some athletes "get psyched" for a maximum lift, while others get psyched out by the number 300,350, or 400. But as a rule, the chart gives a good indication of what an athlete is capable of for a single lift. Example: The first column all the way to the left is the weight that you are using. So let's say you use 135 lbs. If you can bench 135 lbs for 8 reps than your estimated one rep max is 167 lbs. So just slide your finger across the page and line it up with the number of times you can lift the weight. Yes you can use this chart for other lifts such as the squat as well.

<table border="0" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr class="btxt" align="center"> <td width="75"> </td><td align="left">2</td><td align="left">3</td><td align="left">4</td><td align="left">5</td><td align="left">6</td><td align="left">7</td><td align="left">8</td><td align="left">9</td><td align="left">10</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">135</td><td>143</td><td>147</td><td>151</td><td>156</td><td>159</td><td>163</td><td>167</td><td>171</td><td>176</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt"> <td class="table" width="75">145</td><td>154</td><td>158</td><td>162</td><td>167</td><td>171</td><td>175</td><td>180</td><td>184</td><td>189</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">155</td><td>164</td><td>169</td><td>174</td><td>183</td><td>188</td><td>192</td><td>197</td><td>202</td><td>207</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt"> <td class="table" width="75">165</td><td>175</td><td>180</td><td>185</td><td>190</td><td>195</td><td>200</td><td>205</td><td>210</td><td>215</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">175</td><td>186</td><td>191</td><td>196</td><td>201</td><td>207</td><td>212</td><td>217</td><td>222</td><td>228</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt"> <td class="table" width="75">185</td><td>196</td><td>202</td><td>207</td><td>213</td><td>218</td><td>224</td><td>229</td><td>235</td><td>241</td></tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">195</td><td>207</td><td>213</td><td>218</td><td>224</td><td>230</td><td>236</td><td>242</td><td>248</td><td>254</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt"> <td class="table" width="75">205</td><td>217</td><td>223</td><td>230</td><td>236</td><td>242</td><td>248</td><td>254</td><td>260</td><td>267</td></tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">215</td><td>228</td><td>234</td><td>241</td><td>247</td><td>254</td><td>260</td><td>267</td><td>273</td><td>280</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt"> <td class="table" width="75">225</td><td>239</td><td>245</td><td>252</td><td>259</td><td>266</td><td>272</td><td>279</td><td>286</td><td>293</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">235</td><td>249</td><td>256</td><td>263</td><td>270</td><td>277</td><td>284</td><td>291</td><td>298</td><td>306</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt"> <td class="table" width="75">245</td><td>260</td><td>267</td><td>274</td><td>282</td><td>289</td><td>296</td><td>304</td><td>311</td><td>319</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">255</td><td>270</td><td>278</td><td>286</td><td>293</td><td>301</td><td>308</td><td>316</td><td>324</td><td>332</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt"> <td class="table" width="75">265</td><td>281</td><td>289</td><td>297</td><td>305</td><td>313</td><td>321</td><td>329</td><td>337</td><td>345</td> </tr> <tr class="btxt" bgcolor="#dde5ff"> <td class="table" width="75">275</td><td>292</td><td>300</td><td>308</td><td>316</td><td>325</td><td>333</td><td>341</td><td>349</td><td>358</td></tr></tbody> </table>

I've never seen such a chart.. but looking at it from a personal level, I find it very realistic...

I have in my mind what my max would be right now but I'm a woos and won't go anywhere near it so that I never go thru that damn pinched nerve saga again... but I see a lot of validity in this table...

man, i just cant help but chuckle when i see Groomy's name up there on the Big Speed chart... what does he weigh? 175?
It is different seeing a punter's name up in lights - for speed.

Though, I recall the play in the NC game (2nd Quarter) where Andy was given a chance to run to daylight on a fake field goal. Commentator made mention then that he was one of the fastest on tOSU's squad.

My point is that OSU will not put up estimates on the board. I trained there for several months with the football team, and I have seen some very strong athletes there. When you bench press for repetition, it takes a different mind set and focus then when you trying to max out and vice versa. I do believe the 585 or 610 is the true max for Kudla, not an imaginary number based on estimates. Unless OSU changed their practices, those numbers are true max...Go Bucks!

What cracks me up about that photo, is that the guns are clear and powerful, but that it looks like he has a little gut going on. Maybe it's just the lighting.

edit, when it come to critisizing a gut, I have all the knowledge and none of the authority.

I thought the same thing. How much does he currently weigh? 270 or so?

I say, that boy's about as subtle as a hand grenade in a barrel full of oatmeal.

Insert "gun show" comment here.
Has anyone else on here noticed on one of the intros for NCAA 06 the PUNY scUM guy with "Michi-gun" painted on his puny, girlish bicep? Wouldn't it be hilarious to see Kudla break him in two, or throw him one-handed like a football, perfect spiral, 50 yards or so? :-D
