Banned
They have a new CD coming out. Do you northern Buckeyes support or listen to them? They were banned from the southern country music radio listeners because of Natalies comments about Bush in 04 overseas during a concert. I am a country music fan and I say screw the Chicks.(I would do the sisters but Natalie is fugly) What do you think, is the CD a hit or bomb?

I listen to a few of their songs. Personally, I really like Natalie's voice. Very powerful and distinct. Not just some cookie-cutter pop artist.

As to the political crap: who cares? When I start looking to musicians as my role models I have serious problems with my life. Also, I give them credit for speaking their minds and not backing down from an inordinate amount of pressure put on them by their "family."

I love the Dixie Chicks for saying something bad about Bush. I hate Bush. I can't stand country music though so no, I won't be buying that cd. How gay is it that the Southern States banned them on the radio just for speakin' their minds? Anyone ever heard of freedom of speech?

Anyone ever heard of freedom of speech?

huh?

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

That's our "freedom of speech"...I fail to see where it says "radio stations must play your songs"...I also missed the part where congress passed a law abridging the Dixie Chicks' "freedom of speech"...Sorry BuckeyeKid789, but the misuse of the "freedom of speech" argument is a pet peeve of mine. :wink2: This right is only meant to protect you from the government, not the local radio station. In fact, the radio station, not being a part of the government, has every right to play, or in this case not to play, anything they want (inside FCC guidelines at least). They are a private enterprise and cater to the paying customers (the general public). The Dixie Chicks have no protection from the financial consequences the general public wants to meet out for their "speech"...Your argument does not apply in this case...Now, if they would have been arrested upon re-entering the United States, I would be right there with ya...

I kind of dig the Dixie Chicks. They have a few really good songs. Trevelling Soldier is a great song and Cowboy, Take Me Away had a really nice melody.

That said, I'll have to hear some stuff off of the new release before I consider adding to my collection. I don't own DC's other CD's

I don't see where he claimed it was a hit or a bomb.

He was just asking people.

I don't see where Sushi said he did claim it was a hit or a bomb. I do see where she mused, "Hey, why don-cha-all give er a listen befor y'all done grade it" suggesting it would be appropriate to perhaps judge this CD on its merits rather than on ones general feelings towards the dixie chicks.

I didn't see where he "graded it." Just said he hates the Dixie Chicks but not based on their musical merit.
