Disgusting ESPN/High School Story

i still cant believe that somebody like ESPN can just take over a team like that without no controversy or anything. butkus is a totall ass for bailing. thats shows that he is just a hypocrit and disloyal to their team.

the way they made it look on tv was that butkus was the head coach, i never knew he was basically just a "stand-in" for the cameras, but from what i heard of him and the way he took football seriously i would never of thought he would just leave because he contract was up, i thought he was a different person than that, the kind of person that would want the team to get better and stick with them even with them not so good, i guess when the money stopped, he stopped, but why in the world would ESPN only sign him to a 8 week contract, when a normal HS football season is at the least 10 weeks/games, kinda makes me wonder if they only signed him to 4 games would he have left after the 4th. game

Just another shining example of people selling their souls for $$$

--the school selling out everything good and sacred about HS football
--Dick Butkus showing his love of the game has a selling point

What a shame. Butkus looks like a common hypocrite.

Well done all involved.

By the way guys, I met a girl here at tOSU and she is from that high school...incoming freshman this year. She said the city was extatic about having this whole charade take place. She said there was absolutely no negative feeling toward ESPN or the school board. She also mentioned that many players were a ton more motivated to practice and play than they had been previously.

I'm not saying that I agree with ESPN here and I still think it's fundamentally wrong, but I just wanted to add an alternative viewpoint I came across

Hahaha I am sure there are varying opinions no doubt, I am sure there are some kids who love being on TV etc, but I am sure there are several who are pissed seeing them struggle in fromt of millions of americans.

This did not lower my perceptions of ESPiN.

I know what you're thinking, but let me explain. OK, I accept the arguments people are putting forward. Someone at ESPiN should have thought about the possible negative effects on these kids lives if they continued to lose games. For most of these young student athletes, this is the only time that they will be able to participate on a team. It is such a special thing in their lives. They and Butkus should have thought about the possible negative effects on his public image.

OK, I accept all this but my problem actually is a mathematical one. My opinion of ESPiN is as negative as it can be. They are below fungus growing in a sewage treatment plant, in my opinion. What I can't work out is, how do you get to a number below negative infinity?

In that case, perhaps there is mixed emotions in the commnity. This is also coming from a fairly ditzy girl who would probably give her life to be on camera

So that was when you asked the young co-ed back to your place, telling her she could soon be a star on the Internet, right?

This did not lower my perceptions of ESPiN.

I knew where that was going as soon as I read the first line, Steve. :wink2:
