Disgraced Former Penn State DC Jerry Sandusky (convicted child molester)

Who is even in charge of the police force? The University police have jurisdiction over the campus, but who is in charge of them?

I don't mean to be cynical, but how far should a victim have expected a complaint to go if the police force works for the school (if it does)?

The University Police report to the VP of Finance and Business. In 2002, and on an interim basis until a couple of days ago, that was VP Schultz, who was charged with perjury and failing to report an incident of alleged sexual abuse of a minor.

I mentioned earlier that there seemed to be an apparent conflict of interest there, since he could be hesitant to investigate criminal activity that could have a negative effect on PSU's bottom line, such as this mess.

Didn't see your earlier post, but that's precisely what I was getting at...

It's really a shame to see such a legacy end in such a way. Joe represented how a program should be run Morally, Academically, and Athletically. To see his legacy torn down like this just sucks. It sucks balls. Mainly because it wasn't really his fault.

Sure he could have done more, but when I put myself in his position I don't see it from that side of the coin as much. It is very easy to say he should have done better, or that he didn't do what was right, but put yourself in his shoes. If you had a friend who you worked with for that many years, how would you react if someone told you they had committed a horrible, horrible crime? Would you immediately see to it that he was arrested and convicted?

The way I see it, is that Joe reported what he had heard to who he felt necessary, and didn't think much of it later because not much else about the situation came out. He is the Head Coach of Penn State University after all, he has a lot else to think about other than an legal accusation.

For now I am going to wait until more information comes out to make any further judgements. The whole story hasn't been made yet.

My first instinct would be that this is not a "conflict of interest" situation. One could argue that he had an interest in Penn State, but this is not how it typically works. He had a duty, not a conflict. It is not as though Penn State was his client on a separate matter. Otherwise, there would always be a conflict in admitting wrongdoing of your employer.

I'm not defending him.

I couldn't disagree more with your opinion more. Child molesting is the worst of crimes. I don't care if it was my brother...he molests a child and I hear about it....he is going down or at a minimum I am looking into it as a human being. There is no lower form of life then a child molester and no act is more disgusting. Joe, as a leader of young men and a person who talked about morals, took the least action possible when the situation asked for the most action possible. He is a coward and likely knows much more then he is letting on to. The more I hear about this case, and I have been reading quite a bit, the more this looks like a huge cover up including the sports department, the administration and possibly even the local police. I think this gets much worse as more information comes out in the future.

Ask yourself this, if the child reported was one of Joepa's family members, you think he just calls his boss and washes his hands of it. NO F$#% WAY!!
