  • I have just been told that I am going to be working on an engagement in Columbus and need some dining advice. I know since I am an OSU alum the rest of the team on the project is going to look to me for dining, night life, etc, ideas. The problem is that I haven't lived in Columbus for 10 years. Our hotel is in the downtown area, however any info on night spots, restaurants, other happenings will be appreciated.

i like the cameron mithcell places for dinner, i guess it depends on what you want. downtown theirs an m's, martini and mitchells. they are just really good food, not necessarily a cool hang out.

some of the places in the arena district are real nice, you could cruise around to a couple of places. alos i like claddagh (i have no idea how to spell it) its kind of old worldish place that is irish.

Our per diem is $35-$40 for dinner, but occasionally we will have a group event where we can double that amount.

Lindy's, Camran Mitchels, Handke's, etc. will be over your budget (if you want to kick a few extra bucks then I'd suggest Lindy's… one of the best spots in town imo).

Schmidt’s is fun (and within your budget), There are a few good fish spots (might be a bit higher than your budget... RJ Snappers, Fish Market, etc.), G. Michaels is good (although over priced imo, and above your budget). Figlio is a fun spot (good italian, along with good wood fired pizza). Barley's ale house has good beer and good food (right across from the convention center). Barcelona is out of the price range, but if you like "weird trendy" food you might try it (I don't care for it, however it is a popular place among the trendier crowd). Hyde Park Grille has a new location on the "CAP" (down town), if you like Pittsburgh style steaks, you'll love it (my fav. steak house in town).

Edit: I forgot to add Spagio... one of the best spots in town imo (a little over your budget, great food though)

Buca is the gay. Go to Elevator (on High St.) and get the Scallop-stuffed Portobella appetizer and the Surf & Turf Rock (7oz. filet mignon, shrimp and scallops served raw--you cook it yourself at the table on a heated stone). Great beer too, all brewed in-house. To top it off, it's within walking distance of Frog Bear & Wild Boar and all the downtown bars (Brothers, Gaswerks, Spice, Sugar, etc.).

Been there for lunch - their mix and match pasta combinations are amazing. If their dinner menu is of similar quality, you should be plenty satisfied. I recommend against the wedding soup--it's a small step up from Campbell's.

I'll have to second this (or third, I haven't read the whole thread yet). You can get an awesome steak, great beer....and there's a drain in the floor in front of the bar where people used to relieve themselves without having to leave their drink....don't think they'll let you use it, but it's a nice conversation piece.
