No...that is the system setup. You have to spread to 5 other people before giving positive or negative rep to the same person.
Seems like blatantly promoting promiscuity to me.

Thats what it says when I try to rate mililani's threads. Now that's funny.

No, what's funny is your pushing the "safe" issue. If you don't want to get dinged, don't make stupid whiny posts or ding me. Oh, by the way, rocket scientist, since you're about a mile deep in the red, your dings have zero effect on my reps points, so blast away.

the whole rep thing is retarded, especially when you have unnamed Senior Moderators who live in Hawai'i reading OTHER people's reps, and then taking away 12,000 rep points from anyone who says anything remotely negative about him, even though if you ding him, he'll send you a message that says "why the fuck did you ding me?" like some whiny little bitch... your rep should be determined by your peers, not someone with some sort of "i'm better than you, what are you 14" attitude who likes to lord it over the people here... am i right, pakalolo?

edit:
LMAO... hey, brada... you better hurry up and ding 5 other people real quick, so you can come back and ding me for this post too... you miserable spineless waste of flesh...

The whole BP rep game (not that it's specific to this site) is indeed pretty ridiculous. Mods in particular (this is not a bash, LJB, just a comment, in a thread meant for this type of thing, so put your red pen back in your pocket protector) seem completely unwilling to accept a single ding without serious reprisal from them and whatever buddies they can round up to mass-ding dissenters deep into the red... Oh well, on a Buckeye site, I'd rather be red than green anyway :osu: .

I believe only Sr. Mods and Admins can look them up...

As for KB's comments, I really can't figure out why you stay around here. You constantly complain about mods, mindless drones, groupthinkers, blah, blah, blah. If this place is such a dump, why even bother gracing us with your presence? You are here to stir problems...that has been obvious since your first days here. Your hypocrisy makes you transparent...

Please turn off the reputation system if it doesn't agree with you. That is what we tell everyone. If you don't like it, you don't have to deal with it. The same goes for members that ruin your experience on BuckeyePlanet. Place them on your ignore list and you won't have to deal with them either.

As for the rest, I think you're generalizing a bit. Your assumption that folks are "rounding up friends" to mass ding someone borders on paranoid. Look, it just happens sometimes. You get into a bad position and folks hammer you for it. Ask Thump. He was WAY down the reputation list at one point. Now he's almost to the top.

Further, did I "ding" you during our "back and forth" over the marijuana discussion on the football forum? No. Did I return the "ding" you gave to me? No. The vast majority of folks can accept some criticism and refrain from playing "tit for tat". I accept that you thought I was calling you out unjustly. To be honest, I wasn't directing my comments to anyone in particular (at the beginning) until you decided to state that my request was of no concern to you. That is the risk we all run when voicing our opinions. Folks might let you know they disagree. I didn't feel my posts warranted your "ding", but I'm willing to accept that as the price I will sometimes pay to voice my opinion. I did what I'm asked to do on this site.

In fact, all the mods are asked to do things they would probably rather not. Most of these folks are just Buckeye fans plain and simple. They, more than any other, are asked to step into situations that inevitably lead to hard feelings on one side or another. Because of their position, they risk their reputation AND other's opinions of them. So, (and this is directed at everyone, not just you KB) when they are acting in the interests of this site, please cut them some slack. BuckeyePlanet is NOT like other sites. The mods do not act under the cover of secrecy. In almost every case, you will know who did what and why. IMO, that is to be commended. If there is a problem or question, you will know who to talk to and have a chance to iron things out. That is much more honest and forthright than slinking around in anonymity as with other sites.

Now I know you think the reputation system is ridiculous. That is fine, you don't have to use it. I would submit that it is just as silly and ridiculous to claim you aren't "bashing" LJB, while "needling" him about his red pen and pocket protector. This is just baiting someone for a response ... that exact type of response you claim is "ridiculous". Food for thought.

Unless something has been changed, only senior mods and admins can check reputation messages. So, not all mods can access that information. And I believe this has been covered in the past, but there NEEDS to be some folks who can access that information. When problems arise (and they do), there needs to be a mechanism in place where that informaion can be checked and abuses of the system halted. As has been shown over the past few months, Clarity can't be everywhere and do everything. It's not the best system in the world, but it's what we have to work with.

The most common misconception about dings is that they occur because of an argument or differing opinion. I know there are cases of reputation "abuse", where someone will ding you for no justified reason, but posters with a big "rep stick" are also the ones that are juidicous with their rep because they understand the weight they can throw around. I can count numerous times where I have been in an argument with another poster or had differing opinions from the majority...RARELY have I been dinged for them.

Reputation is usually all about approach, not opinions. So for all of the rep whiners, I have decided to write a short segment...

How NOT to get dinged:

1. Think before you type - The most common problem with retarded posts is to write something when you are in a hurry, tired or emotional. This is usually okay in a light-hearted thread but if you are trying to really make a point...put some legitimate thought into your argument before perssing submit.

2. Back up opinions, cite facts - Back up your opinions with reasoning, so that even if others don't agree with your line of reasoning, they can at least see why you think the way you do. If you are going to throw out obscure facts, cite a source or give us numbers that are easy to reference. A lot of times I've seen people throw an incorrect number out off the top of their head and destroy their crediability in the entire thread.

3. Offer new information - Don't simply restate your original point. People get tired of your act really quick if your only counter-point is that "Notre Dame has a tougher schedule" and you say it 5 times in a single thread.

4. Don't make it personal - Name calling and personal attacks are fun as far as I'm concerned...but if you are going to get into that, you'd better have thick reputation skin. Again, I don't mind when people do it...but some people will ding you for it.

5. Don't whine about dings, call out the board or whine about mods - Being a drama queen is a one-way ticket to red. If you attack the entire board, you have just made an enemy of everyone. Individualize your anger or you risk making a confrontation a gang-bang.

6. TURN YOUR FREAKING REPUTATION OFF!

That comment was in reference to an ongoing discussion that LJB has been having with me--and I stand by my statement that calling someone a dork is not "bashing a mod", which I know is out-of-bounds. As a mod, he does a great great job and is a paragon of virtue, never letting his personal feelings get in the way--but as a human he is clearly a nerd and suckup. Can we not accept this distinction once a mortal poster has made the metamorphosis to moderator?

Grad, let me put it this way: I find even more flaws with our federal and state governments (than with this site), yet I continue to track their progress and even vote, because I am still a citizen and hold out hope for positive change.

OilerBuck, you can throw those rules out the window when the topic is marijuana... It was merely my "controversial" opinions, and continuing a thread that was already far off-topic, that led other posters to retaliate with repetitive personal attacks and mass dings. I went from 10000+ rep to just as much in the red in 2 days, which is indeed ridiculous. 3Yards admits it's not the best system in the world, so what's the harm in a little criticism?

I should have clarified, I know only Admins. & Senior Mods. can look at dings but I know for a fact that Mili looked at other people I dinged early on and then dinged me for it.

That's not right no matter how you try to defend it.

That's abuse of power if you ask me. That's not what having the power to look at people's rep is for.

But whatever, I've addressed Mili about this before and it's water under the bridge.

As far as what 3yards said above, I had the 4th lowest rep on this site back in late December all b/c of calling out Mili and voicing my opinion about PETA. (Boy were those fun days!

But I do agree that for the most part posters with lots of rep don't give people negative rep. (Except for Tibor of course)
