  • I was perusing CNN and came across this article. link

As sick as it is, the first thing that crossed my mind was posting a 'would you still hit it' thread on BP, but reading the article, I came across something curious...

"Continue praying for her. The doctors are doing everything that is humanly possible to save her, but only God can really save your (sic) life," says the most recent post by Renato Lindgren.

So, I ask the distinguished grammarians among us, why the (sic) in this instance and is the (sic) even needed?

In my opinion, the only thing remotely 'sic' about this thread is my thought to post a 'would you still hit it'?. I have since reconsidered, and would never post such a disgusting and insensitive item in such a tragic case.

It should be "only G-d can save her life" since she is the subject..
More importantly, I would absolutely hit it... and... I'd probably even be willing to take sloppy seconds.

Hmm - that occurred to me before I finished typing the post, but truth be told, I was hoping for a your/you're error. :ohwell:

I'd definitely hit it, assuming she's not contagious. What was your question, FCB?

I have no idea about "(sic)". Maybe the author of the article is just so used to people using you're/your incorrectly that he just assumed it was wrong.
