Devon Still (official thread)

Just guessing, but maybe another factor is "promised position." On the OSU side, Still is frequently mentioned in the context of being a DT. As I understand it, PSU is singing in the key of DE. That might make a difference to Still.

Possible of course, but one of the things I like about JT's style is that in the past he seems to avoid branding a recruit to a certain position. I would be surprised if the staff was telling Still they had him penciled in anywhere beyond a shot to prove himself at both positions.

JMO, but if this is an issue it seems more likely that PSU would tell him they are looking at him at DE and OSU is saying...lets see where camp and the rest of our depth take you.

Guess he doesn't take into consideration when you go to the NFL as a junior and make millions, you just might not go back to school !!

What confuses me is... why do stats or "academic reputation" even matter... if YOU care about graduation, YOU do what is necessary to graduate... It's YOUR decision...

And just what "style" does our defense have that conflicts with what a DE would want?

I really really like this kid... which is why these comments really really bugged me

GPA stuff right there...

Followed recruiting and OSU athletes for about 5 years, but don't post much. Really don't have much insight to offer, however was curious about the Scout site, quote from Devon Still after his PSU visit, that he didn't meet with his position coach. I believe that position coach would be Luke Fickel. On Rivals site, commitment list for 2007, Page 2 identifies the recruits committed and the coaches who recruited them. The coaches names are well represented, but Coach Fickel is not identfied at all. I guess the absence of his name on the "recruited by" section is more noticable because in previous years the buzz in recruiting was all about his skills in bonding at "in home" visits. Have I missed something?

As a DE/DT recruit I would think that Still would be coached by Heacock.

PSU and Coach Johnson have went deep into their smoke, mirror and magic bag on Mr. Still. They probably played on the fact that Coach Heatcock is the Def. Cord. and failed to mention he's also the D-line coach. Probably played ignorant on who our d-line coach was. I can see where a player could be easily mislead in that situation. Its also something that can be easily clarified by OSU. I think this one may come back to backfire on PSU. Besides didn't the past 2 years PSU recruit a boatload of D-line kids.

They signed 9 DL recruits last year but I think 2 of them moved to the OL.

They figure they got to have something to sway Devon Still to Penn State. Why else would you want to come? Don't get me wrong, Penn State produces great football players but please other than last year when have they been in a big bowl and when have they had consistant winning seasons. The scholarship thing if you get injured is very intriguing and I can see why recruits would be swayed to them.

By BK... Devon says that he hopes to have a decision made soon between tOSU and PSU. He doesn't know what the deciding factor will be. His mom talked to JT last week, and he hasn't talked to PSU lately, but thinks his mom has.

He sounds like a kid that is really, really torn... Could go either way...
