So you reload a [Mark May]ty OL?

Or the [Mark May]ty OL from last year couldn't possibly be as bad this year because the second team guys from last year, who rode the pine, are a step up this year? Or the new guys from this class will dominate from the get-go?

Actually it's because most OL are redshirted, very few have the mass and strength to play at the next level their freshmen year.

#2 is playmakers. Derrick Green and Devon Smith might be good players but they are not homerun hitters. They are grinders. Harris is the best WR prospect in Hokes 3 recruiting classes. Michigan used to get 1-2 kids his caliber every year. It's a huge void. Peppers is gonna play safety...might even grow into OLB. If I were Michigan I would try him at RB. Once again decent/good playmakers will not win you B10 or NC's...definitely will not beat us. You need elite talent all over the field to go against the defense we are assembling. I don't see it. Ways, Hesson, Darboh, Dukes, Canteen...probably solid but nothing special.

Do you mean Campbell for WR right? Harris is a RB.

For WR we have to see, on paper I agree, but some players develop more in college and get better. I can only hope one will step up.

#3 your back 7 on defense. Please have Beyer check Marcus Baugh or one of our TE's when we play...pretty please. Douglas, Thomas, Peppers, and the rest might be good but the overall speed and skill is not there to stop us. I think you'll be fine at safety but you better start getting elite corners and linebackers that are good in coverage. The offense we will be running require elite linebackers and corners to stop. The back 7 is key. Like I said you might have some spots that are fine but your only as good as you weakest links. I give Mattison credit. He covered up a mediocre secondary by pressuring QB's...

Thomas is going to be key IMO, and we need a lock down corner no doubt. I happen to like our LB group and when Ryan returns I think Michigan will only get better. I am worried the least about defense. Defense is the one spot I believe we have the best coach on the sideline in the Big Ten.

Ummm, perhaps the wr in your upcoming class Drake Harris?

Gotcha, being Campbell just committed I thought we were talking about him.

But in a few years if they both come Harris and Campbell will be fun to watch.

To the point running the spread Michigan was not going to get any elite WR, who was going to come and have DR throw to them?

Thomas will end up being very good IMO. The problem is CB not safety. We go 4-5 wide you better have some badass CB's out there in the very near future...like this year. Also linebackers against wheel routes...dump offs...drag routes...seam routes...better get some linebackers that can cover or we will have a field day.

Sure Meyer could make it to 4, but he has to stay healthy.

As for the rest of your post is a lot of emotion, Michigan and OSU are destroying the other big ten schools in recruiting the past three years. Talking who's is better michigan vs OSU would be a fun debate. Will see how it plays out and should be fun.

No smack talk, just football debate. You have to get some perspective from others about your team, it's way to easy to drink the koolaid.

Gardner best WR was 5' 8'' gallon last year. Who's the kid from OSU who made that one handed catch last year? It's nice to have a WR like him to throw too, DG had nobody even close to that calibor last year. I think the two WR this year have the ability to make those type of catches. Will see.

TE has to be big this year, with DR michigan never seemed to attacked the seems with our TE's. I hope this changes and we use our TE"s.
Hoke is a better recruiter than Carr, but recruiting overall has never been scUMs problem. In the Tressel years, the scUM classes were always ranked higher than OSU, but JT owned you guys.

Coaching matters a lot and Meyer is head and shoulders a better coach than Hoke. Hoke has never won a championship in his career, and the separation between the programs is going to increase over time. Meyer is going to make you guys wish Tressel was back

He will soon. He's been practicing every summer since he took the job.

He was a DL coach in 97, so he has won a championship, he also won the Mac with Ball State in 2008. Majority of his losses came at Ball State and from what I have read it was in terrible shape.

Tressel ********************************************> than Carr.

I'm mildly surprised how much faith in Hoke scUM fans tend to have.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you wrote, I've just always wondered *why* he gets so much leeway from fans. He had a great initial season, record wise, attributable to an improved defense and a charmin soft schedule. Then his team lays an absolute egg last season, shitting the bed in nearly every big game. (I'm not saying they were blown out, so maybe I should use a different phrase. I'm saying they didn't step up when it mattered most). Yet, Hoke is still praised like he has led scUM back to the promised land.

Is it his admittedly excellent recruiting? Or is he just that likable? I'd be interested to hear why you like him so much.

He hasn't lost to App St or Toledo, and he beat Ohio St once. Clearly, he's the best coach they've had up there in 10 years.

No he didn't. He got blown out by Turner Gill's Buffalo in the championship game.

Back on the Gardner topic though, maybe some of the Michigan fan's like Germ are optimistic due to the mediocrity of the Big10 QB's after Braxton. Not a lot of legit talent at QB in conference outside of Braxton and then what Taylor Martinez?

Like most positions in the conference there is a large gap between the Buckeye starter and the rest of the conference guys. Not many Michigan starters would sniff the field for the Buckeyes, but it could be my scarlet colored glasses messing with my eyes.

Quick question while I am rambling, would any Michigan player start for the Buckeyes this year?

Last comment, this thread has been entertaining and moving quickly since I last checked in on it. You give good thread Germ.
