Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

Mikael Samuelsson is back in Detroit on a two-year deal with $3 million per. That's got to be a joke right ? He's not even worth half of that if you ask me.

You'll forget about it after the Suter mega-deal.

Not before Jordin Tootoo gets $1.9 per year for three years......Shoot me now, Ken.

If Holland has signed these guys at the expense of taking a real shot at Suter or Parise he should be fired immediately.

This team needs top 6 forwards and top flight d-men - that isn't Tootoo or Sammy.

edit: Why in the fuck is he signing Gustavsson for 3M per to be Howard's backup!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?

It's $1.5mil per, $3mil overall. Compared to other backup goaltender salaries, that's not too bad.

I think you guys will land Ryan Suter and Alex Semin.

There's no way in hell Semin will play 3rd fiddle behind Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Besides Semin doesn't play the right type of game that Babcock runs anyway, so him being offered a contract by the Wings seems super far-fetched.

As for Suter, I hope so. Right now the best D-man on the team is Jonathan Ericcson. If that remains so, look for Howard to put up Mason-esque numbers.

Forgot Kronner. Still, the 2nd best d-man is Brendan Smith and the 3rd is Ericcsson.

That's NOT good.

Hell give me a 50 year old Chelios at this point.

This team tops out at 90 points and will miss the playoffs UNLESS they get another d-man and at least a 2nd/3rd line forward who can score sometimes.

Detroit— Ken Holland says the Red Wings are moving on.
But any further roster moves this offseason are likely to come slowly. In the coming years, there might be fewer blockbuster signings than some fans anticipate.
Moreover, there is a considerable need to develop younger players on the roster.
"You do everything you can do with the information you've got, and when somebody makes their decision, you don't look back," the Red Wings general manager said, of competing for the two top free agents, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter — and losing.
Holland said he does not view their decision as a sign the Red Wings are fading.
"We might not be No. 1, but we were one of two teams that Ryan Suter met with," he said.

If I were to make a prediction now, the Wings are about a 95 point team at best. You don't lose one of the best defensemen ever, a solid #3 d-man, and a skilled wing like Hudler having a career year, replace them with basically nothing and improve. There is a definite step back coming for the Wings this year.
