Detroit Red Wings (Official Thread)

+1 on that.

You can go back thru the list of Stanley Cup champs, and there will be no more common thread than a money goaltender. Since expansion, there have been relatively few teams who went all the way without an all-timer between the pipes. Parent, Dryden, Smith, Roy, Fuhr, Brodeur, those are all clear HOF. Even Barasso, Richter, Vernon (CGY & DET), Giguere, Belfour, Osgood, Hasek, Joseph, were top goalies in their time. The only SC winning goalies I can't name off the top of my head are BOS with Orr (top 3 player all time), and CAR conn smythe winner cam ward. Just to make the finals, you need at least a hot as hell goalie (Kolzig, Beezer, Potvin, Hextall). I don't see Mase going out like Carey, but goalies are a special breed, so you can never tell.

Lidstrom had a ruptured ball for the last two rounds. He wasn't the same player, but come on. I don't think he's done. His game isn't dependent on strength or speed, so I think he could have a few more years in him. It depends on how he recovers, and his desire to play in the league. Let me know the details of the vbet (Lidstrom? Nash? Cups in 11-12?), and I'll take it.
not saying that. lidstrom has been an elite/the elite player in the league the last few years. hes 39 and for the first time in his career showed decline. imo at his age he was over played during the regular season this year and the wear on the treads showed as the seven game series progressed...

detroit will probably have an off year and still be a contender. not many teams in the nhl can ever have that tag on their club. holland won't make any moves this summer but i could see a move at trade deadline. still everyone forgets that we have a very solid core or players in our farm league. as for everyone else getting better in the central detroit, st. louis, and columbus are the only teams who look they won't have much cap problems next summer. the cap will go down and a lot of bright young stars will hit the market. you can't make a run every year but i feel that this is a transition year for detroit in the forward department.

i kinda agree with you on that but when leino, helm, abdkader, and ericsson become full time players i think there will be a little growing pains.

That's ok. I'll take growing pains over overpaying and ruining the depth.

Samuelsson gets $7.5M over 3 years from Vancouver.

Yep. Vancouver really overpaid him and while they were looking like they are going to make a run at the Cup this year, LogoHunter will find a way to ruin it through inconsistent play OR some boneheaded defensive lapses.

40 point player, 2.5m, ive seen worse contracts. that being said not bad idea for the wings to possibly let him go at that price. certianly not a horrible contract, imo. (except hell be what 36-37? at the end of it?)

There's that and he never really played consistently while with the Wings. If he couldn't do it in that atmosphere, he sure as hell won't do it in Vancouver.

Hudler signed with Dynamo Moscow....

. : NHL.CZ : .| CZ

1 year/2 mill. Could've made more than that in the NHL. Weird.

Yeah that's really odd since he just accepted arbitration. Oh well.

certainly odd. seems he could have gotten more than that in the nhl and better/longer term...
Reports: Hudler signs contract with KHL team

wings make a signing today
Red Wings sign defenceman Janik to one-year contract

Janik is more for Grand Rapids than Detroit right now.

Kinda glad Hudler is gone. His playmaking skills were nice but he got killed on the boards and tended to be a defensive liability.

It's just about $3M under the cap for the Wings so they can make a trade in January-February for whatever they need
