Detroit Lions (official thread)

I get it. Passing on Carter is questionable. But right now it seems the Lions are sticking with a conservative approach to drafting.

I truly believe they could have taken Carter and the maybe Gonzalez and then Campbell. But no Gibbs. So it is a very far comment that you could have likely taken similar draft players and still have Carter and if he busts you have the same players in some sense.

But the Lions have stuck to a script of taking guys who grade high and are safe picks as far as off the field and attitude.

Next season will definitely be the pass/fail on this staff and where things are headed.

It really felt like they were picking for want rather than sheer need or BPA. Now you can do that when you're close. The question is will the D be good enough next year to have justified doing that

100% agree with this. I do not think the D had enough play makers to pass on Carter. They could have taken Carter and still take Gibbs at 18 and more than likely Campbell in the 2nd round. This is not 100% but still in the realm of possibilities. So you have the same Gibbs and Campbell and have a possible upside of Carter. And if Carter busts out you have the same team you have now.......this is the only thought I have had about this draft.

The last Lions coach to beat the Packers four straight times was Monte Clark in 1982-83.

Man Campbell is changing the culture in Detroit.

He and Brad Holmes are a blessing. I don't want to get too excited, but the Lions schedule looks very favorable at this point. They play the Bears twice, the Vikings twice, Denver, and the Panthers. They may reach the 12 win mark..........but it's the Lions and we can never have nice things.

I am now officially Lions focused. As my beloved Spartans have decided to take the football season off I need to focus on my second favorite squad.
Right now 12-13 wins feel like a lock. Especially realizing that Dallas are once again frauds.

Make it to the bye 6-2 and it feels like 13-4 is an almost guarantee. This week heading to TB after they had a bye week will be a tough out. Hopefully ASB, Gibbs, and Branch are available to play.

The Lions are fine.
And Hutch is now a Lion so we all need to forget where he came from. Focus on the fact that he is a Dearborn kid.
And lets face it, Hutch right now is killing it. So I am here for it.
This Lions team is built for the long haul. No fancy passing scheme or anything. Built like the Steelers or the current 49ers. Those are styles that last. The Lions will be in the mix for a long time.
Now a Super Bowl is maybe a bit of a reach right now but they have the solid core and playing style that it is not an insane discussion.

No I meant the prediction on record. I lived through the 0-16 year. One injury to Goff and we're screwed.

How many yards did Barry have in the playoffs in '94, '95, '97? I'll give you a hint not very many. We all are to blame for not winning a [Super Bowl] in Detroit even Barry Sanders.

Scott Mitchell has a point.
