It has been in a bunch of stories over the past few days. Day announced his staff. Johnson not retained. Sorry, but I can't link anything from work.Source?
That is awesome, I loved Taver when he was here. I took some visits in HS to Miami OH when he was there and he was an absolute rock star on every visit, everyone loved him. The man knows defense and what an addition to MG and Walt. Really good work by Day getting him back in this role.![]()

Taver Johnson Back on Ohio State’s Coaching Staff As Defensive Analyst
![]()
Taver Johnson is back at Ohio State.
Johnson, who was previously Ohio State’s cornerbacks coach from 2007-11 and again in 2018, has returned to Ohio State as a defensive analyst working with the Buckeyes’ secondary, according to his X account.
In his initial five-year stint as Ohio State’s cornerbacks coach, Johnson developed multiple All-American cornerbacks in Malcolm Jenkins (2008) and Chimdi Chekwa (2010). He returned to Ohio State in 2018 when Kerry Coombs left the Buckeyes for the Tennessee Titans, working alongside
Ryan Day as assistant coaches for one year, but was not retained when Day became the head coach in 2019.
Six years later, however, Johnson is joining Day’s staff in a support-staff capacity in which he will help co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach Tim Walton and passing game coordinator/safeties coach Matt Guerrieri coach the Buckeyes’ defensive backs, taking advantage of the rule change last offseason that now allows analysts to coach players on the field.

That didn't even cross my mind and it made me laugh, but now that you mention it his best role could be the personal tutor to #1 eliminating PI's and holds. There are other issues with Iggy on that problem, but not getting his head around is part of the ultimate reason the refs reach for the laundry on the PI's. Maybe Taver can help him out there because his talent and size is without question.I feel like when he's here, the CB's, you know, look for the football? I'll hang up and listen, thanks.
Well, no shade at the guy personally but every time I see the name Kerry Coombs I feel like Kirk Herbstreit is going to remind us about the rules around Face guarding...That didn't even cross my mind and it made me laugh, but now that you mention it his best role could be the personal tutor to #1 eliminating PI's and holds.
