Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

Alumni lead charge for JoePa statue

Construction workers tore down Penn State's iconic Joe Paterno statue on campus two years ago -- but this town might not be without one for much longer.

Two alumni already have received the OK from the borough to install a projected $300,000 life-sized bronze sculpture downtown, about two miles from the original site. And they're hoping the statue, which will feature Paterno sitting on a bench reading Virgil's "Aeneid," will be installed by fall of next year.

4. Dominate the BigTen.

I don't think he could have done this. Unless you mean if he had abandoned his "success with honor" Grand Experiment thing, and had recruited some thugs, then I guess I could see that. But the guy was too busy recruiting only model students. He was too busy molding them into the great men they have all become. He was too busy making sure they studied. And remember that he donated at least 100% of his paycheck every month back to the university. I miss him so much. God bless you, Joe, you savior of weekends!

Speaking of donating money back to the university, I'd be interested to see what percentage of his income he actually donated. I'd like to see that compared with other coaches. I know Tressel donated a lot back to Ohio State at some time. I also know that Woody Hayes was reported to get a check for speaking at different meetings around the state, and he used to just sign the check over to the local school district or the athletics department of that school district. I can't imagine that he donated a lot to those districts, but seeing as he often put 100% back, I think that's kinda cool.

NCAA: Paterno family's lawsuit 'ignores reality'

...

The NCAA attorneys argue the Paternos wrongly "contend that the NCAA extorted an unwilling Penn State" into accepting the sanctions or that, "perhaps the NCAA and Penn State for some reason conspired together to defame the memory of a beloved coach."

The family's argument "ignores reality, including a series of undisputed facts that they cannot try to seriously deny," the NCAA said.

...

The NCAA attorneys note that Paterno testified before a grand jury that Sandusky continued to have access to campus facilities even after Paterno "knew some kind of inappropriate action was being taken by Jerry Sandusky with a youngster" in an on-campus shower.

...

But the NCAA attorneys contend the Paterno family is asking the court to do something "extraordinary" by voiding a contract that doesn't involve the Paternos.

Given that ignoring reality seems to be the way things work in and around Happy Valley and the PSU football program in particular, I'd say the NCAA pretty much nailed it.

Sports cartoonist Rob Tornoe, who does sports cartoon work for the Philadelphia Inquirer, drew the above cartoon shortly after Joe Paterno’s death in January which features legendary Alabama coach Paul “Bear” Bryant welcoming him into heaven. But since the Freeh Report’s release Tornoe has updated his original cartoon.

I saw a story on the internet:

disgraced-sports-heroes1.jpg

Who would you think is their "#1 disgraced sports hero"? Lance Armstrong, Shoeless Joe Jackson, OJ Simpson, Pete Rose.....NO, it's this guy:

1. Joe Paterno

Speaking of depressing, how about the case of Joe Paterno? He was only the winningest and most respected D-I college football coach ever, having led Penn State to two National Championships and 37 bowl appearances.

But of course, you know what’s happened. Last November, former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested for child abuse, and an investigation revealed that Paterno had, at minimum, not taken sufficient actions to alert authorities or, at maximum, actively tried to cover up the abuse. Either way, it’s pretty despicable, and as a result the 85-year-old CFB legend was fired.

If you ask me, that’s the biggest fall from grace in the history of sports.
