Decanonized Mythologized Disgraced Ped State Monster Coach Joe Paterno (Zombie Icon)

Paterno still has no exit strategy

Associated Press

Thursday, October 11, 2007
Joe Paterno's record 42nd season as Penn State's football coach has been a trying one on the field, where his team has lost two of its last three, and off, with a recent string of players in legal trouble.
It's not enough to make the 80-year-old JoePa think about calling it quits, though.
Asked if he would ever consider installing a succession plan at PSU, Paterno said he'd never thought about it.
"If the time comes when I start thinking, 'Hey, I'm going to get out of it this year or next year,' so forth, then obviously I've got to think of the scenario," Paterno said.

Paterno says he took part in traffic incident

Thursday, October 11, 2007
By Ron Musselman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's continuing pattern of off-the-field incidents took an unusual turn yesterday, reaching to the top of the program.
Penn State coach Joe Paterno confirmed for the first time that he had a verbal run-in with a female driver Friday after a near accident on campus.
Message boards have been full of rumored accounts of the incident, but Paterno made no secret of it.
He told more than 300 people at the Penn State Quarterback Club luncheon about his near miss. Information exchanged at the weekly luncheon is normally treated as off the record and not open to the media. But multiple sources who attended told the Post-Gazette about Paterno's exchange with the audience.
According to the sources, Paterno said after his close call he pulled his car over to the curb and got out.
He then approached the other vehicle and shook his finger at the driver. He warned her to, "Watch it."
"Be careful," Paterno said. "I have your license number, and I will call the police on you."
According to the sources, Paterno said a male passenger then walked up and chastised him, saying, "That's my wife you're talking to."
Paterno said, "That's your problem."
The woman then snapped back at Paterno, telling him, "I'm going to call the police on you."
Paterno reportedly told the woman to go ahead.
She did just that.

so an old driver vs. a female driver....i'm not sure who to trust on this one

i don't think theres anything more dangerous than a woman on a phone driving a car.....i've nearly been hit 2 or 3 times just this last week
Nothing in any report states that the female driver was on the phone - don't cut JoePa slack based on fiction.

Not just an old driver, but an old driver with Mr. Magoo glasses.

'Wash Out': It's my eyes. I've got walleye-vision.
'Dead Meat': Isn't there something that can be done?
'Wash Out': Well, there's a delicate corneal inversion procedure ... a multi-opti-pupil-optomy. But, in order to keep from damaging the eye sockets, they've got to go in through the rectum. Ain't no man going to take that route with me!

I believe being on the phone was implied when the report stated the driver was female.

Writing that the female driver was on her cell phone, futzing with her radio, smoking a cigarette, and applying makeup would have been redundant.

And then picking up her purse which fell to the ground, which happens ALL THE FUCKING TIME!

I thought the reason he pulled over and got irate was because she was wearing a black and white striped blouse and he thought she was a ref.

Hey, at least he walked up to the correct car before he started yelling at her.

I doubt the "Do you know who I am?" allegations, though.

Report: Paterno acknowledges part in traffic incident
Updated: October 11, 2007, 5:12 PM ET
Already trying to run interference on several off-the-field incidents involving his players, Joe Paterno confirmed Wednesday that he, too, has run into some trouble.
The Penn State football coach acknowledged he had a verbal confrontation with a female driver last week following a near accident on campus. Paterno discussed the incident while addressing a crowd of more than 300 people at the Penn State Quarterback Club luncheon. The weekly gathering is not open to the media, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, citing multiple sources who attended, gleaned details about the coach's exchange for a story it published Thursday.
It is not clear how the close call occurred. According to the Post-Gazette's report, Paterno told the luncheon he pulled his car over to the curb, got out and approached the other vehicle. He shook his finger at the driver and warned her to, "Watch it."
"Be careful," Paterno said, according to the newspaper's report. "I have your license number, and I will call the police on you."
According to the Post-Gazette's sources, Paterno said a male passenger then walked up and chastised him, saying, "That's my wife you're talking to."
"That's your problem," Paterno reportedly replied.
The woman then snapped at Paterno. "I'm going to call the police on you," she said. Paterno reportedly told the woman to go ahead.
And she did just that.
Citing a university police report, the newspaper said the unidentified woman filed her claim the same day as the incident. She stated that "a male driver committed a traffic violation and acted in a disorderly manner at 12:09 p.m., along Bigler Road, near the Food Science Building."
Without mentioning Paterno by name, Penn State University police said Thursday that its investigation into an on-campus interaction between two drivers has been closed. No charges will be filed.
The incident adds to Penn State's list of off-the-field issues.

No charges filed in Paterno run-in
Friday, October 12, 2007
By Ron Musselman, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has crossed one off-the-field distraction from his list.
Tyrone Parham, assistant university police director, said yesterday that no charges would be filed against Paterno after he confronted a female driver after a near accident a week ago on campus.
No action will be taken either against the unnamed women, who Parham identified as a university employee.
"We talked to both sides and obviously it was a disagreement between two people," Parham said. "There were no witnesses. There was no police officer.
"As far as we're concerned, we consider it over and done."
