McAllister, Smith among players reportedly testing positive

A number of NFL players -- including Deuce McAllister and Will Smith of the New Orleans Saints -- have tested positive under the NFL's steroid policy as a result of taking water pills to lose weight, according to a report from Fox 31-Denver reporter Josina Anderson.
Anderson's report cited "a rash of positive tests." The number is more than 10 and may exceed 15, two sources have told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Attorney David Cornwell told Mortensen he has been retained by "a number of players" to represent them in the NFL appeals process, but Cornwell wouldn't say who those players were or the exact number who have retained his legal services.

Smith's listed agent, Joel Segal, was not immediately available to comment, according to Fox 31-Denver. A representative for McAllister's agent, Jim Steiner, said the agent would call that station back.

Yeah, I saw that. Not a big fan of it.

I get the feeling this isn't going to be an open and shut case.
Sounds like all of these guys are appealing and there's going to be an investigation. Either a lot of guys are about to be shit outta luck for a month (minimum) or we'll find out this was all a "mistake"

Smith hopes this isn't year's last hurrah

Possible four-game suspension for DE could start next week

Friday, November 28, 2008 By Mike Triplett

Sunday's game at Tampa Bay might be the last hurrah this year for Saints defensive end Will Smith, who is facing a possible four-game suspension for the final four weeks of the regular season.
But he said that won't give him any extra incentive to "leave it all on the field."
"I leave it all out there every game, so if I was to say that, that would mean I'm taking it easy the rest of the other games," Smith said. "Every game you've got to go out and play hard and do what you want to do. In this profession, you never know when your last game is, so you've got to go out and give it your all every week."

It's a shame to see this happen. I hope the story is true that they were taking a weight loss supplement and are innocent victims as his lawyer David Cromwell is stating.

yeah, I'm sure. :roll1:

I haven't seen an athlete who hasn't lied when when they get caught. Floyd Landis anyone?

Weak statement. Will has weight stipulations in his contract, just like Deuce and Charles Grant.

Starcaps does not list any banned substances in their ingredients. Why would they know it did?

If the NFL knew Starcaps had banned substances in the product, why didn't they list it as a banned substance?

Were Will, Deuce, and Charles suppossed to hire chemists to break down all substances in the pill? Maybe they should just put a laboratory in their basements and hire chemists to determine if their vitamins are safe.

"You and you alone are responsible for what goes into your body. Claiming that you used only legally available nutritional supplements will not help you in an appeal. ... Even if they are bought over-the-counter from a known establishment, there is currently no way to be sure that they contain the ingredients listed on the packaging or have not been tainted with prohibited substances ...
"If you take these products, you do so AT YOUR OWN RISK! For your own health and success in the league, we strongly encourage you to avoid the use of supplements altogether, or at the very least to be extremely careful about what you choose to take."

I know people that go into great detail with dieting and training, that get paid a hell of a lot less then Will Smith. If he needed to keep an eye on his weight, then he should keep a better eye on his diet.

Will Smith to honor high school football stars

UTICA ? New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith and his Where There?s a Will There?s a Way foundation will host the inaugural ?Evening of All-Stars? on Saturday, May 2, at Daniele?s Banquet facility in New Hartford.

Smith, the NFL Pro Bowler from Utica and a former football star at Thomas R. Proctor High School, will return to pay special tribute to members of the 2008 Observer-Dispatch?s All-Mohawk Valley Football Team.

Where There?s a Will There?s a Way is a not-for-profit organization that was founded by Will Smith, a former O-D All-Mohawk Valley Player of the Year whose goal is to promote high school football talent in Central New York. Smith also hopes to incorporate a scholarship in the name of the foundation. Proceeds from this event will help support the only high school football camp and combine in the Mohawk Valley, to be held again this year on May 30 at Thomas R. Proctor High School?s D?Alessandro Stadium.

?The goal behind Will?s organization is to promote the high school football talent in this area,? said Paul Filletti, the banquet chairperson and one of Smith?s former high school coaches at Proctor. ?Will believes there are kids here with a lot of talent who don?t get the recognition other kids do, and this dinner is something he hopes to do for them every year.?

First and Twenty with Will Smith

New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith was selected by the Saints with their first round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. Smith, a team captain in 2008, is a veteran of 78 career NFL games, with 59 starts to his credit, and owns 342 career tackles, 36.5 sacks for 245 yards, 13 forced fumbles with 13 passes defensed and six career fumble recoveries. In 2008 Smith signed a six-year contract extension with the Saints. Smith, who made the Pro Bowl in 2006, talked today after his morning workout about his preparations for the 2009 season.

NewOrleansSaints.com: ?You were banged the second half of last season with a painful abdominal injury, but you never missed practices or games and you refused to use it as an excuse. How are you feeling these days and is it something you are worried about moving forward??

Saints Defensive End Will Smith: ?I?m feeling great. I had a little surgery right after the season to get it corrected and then spent the first part of my off-season rehabbing it and it?s feeling 100%. It was a one time thing and isn?t something that?s going to be anything that I need to worry about going forward.?

NewOrleansSaints.com: ?There are a lot of new faces, particularly on defense, that have entered the locker room via free agency. As a team captain, what sort of things do you do to get to know the new guys and how do you see them fitting in??

Saints Defensive End Will Smith: ?I?ve had the chance to sit down and talk to all of the new guys. A guy like Rod Coleman I was already familiar with because the Saints and the Falcons play each twice a year, so I know what kind of guy he is and what kind of competitor he is and what type of person he is. But for the most part it?s talking to them and getting to know them and letting them know how we do things and what?s expected. I met with (Paul) Spicer a few weeks before he signed here and really enjoyed getting to meet him and learn more about him. The new guys have fit right in.?

NewOrleansSaints.com: ?What has your off-season been like? What sort of things have you done since the end of last season??

Saints Defensive End Will Smith: ?At first it was just getting healthy after the surgery and getting rested, then it moved into the rehab phase and now into the strength-and-conditioning phase. Off the field, my family and I have done a little bit of traveling, but for the most part it?s been staying around New Orleans and just laying low and getting ready for the upcoming season. I?ve been here at the facility pretty much every day.?

NewOrleansSaints.com: ?Have you gone back to Ohio State at all recently? Do you keep tabs on the guys that people are talking about being drafted from Ohio State??

Saints Defensive End Will Smith: ?I still have a home there, so I try to make it back to Columbus every few months and make sure my house is still in one piece. I keep up with Ohio State and follow what the players are up to and try to keep in touch with the program. It?s nice to see the nice things that people are saying about some of the guys that are projected to go high in the draft. From what I am hearing it looks good for some of them. You never know, a few of them may end up here.?

NewOrleansSaints.com: “Are there any sports teams that you follow as a fan? Follow to the point of knowing their record, who everyone on the team is, and that you don’t miss a second of any of their games?”

Saints Defensive End Will Smith: “I am a huge sports fan. For starters, if the Buckeyes are on TV then I’m watching it and rooting for them, regardless of what sport it is. I am a big New York Yankees fan and know them and keep up with what they’re doing every day. In basketball I am a Cleveland Cavaliers fan and know those guys pretty well and keep up with them. In golf, I’m a Tiger Woods fan and watch him and try to learn from the best.”
