DE Walter "Scooter" Dublin (official thread)

Good point. I couldn't agree more about Dublin...his motor really is non-stop. And he is extremely quick out of his stance and hangs with every play. But if you watch the video of Wesley, you see a similar determination combined with freakish athleticism. Both have great offer lists...Dublin has offers from Nebraska, Clemson, Iowa, Minnesota, WVU and Kentucky. Wesley has offers from Alabama, Maryland, Ole Miss, LSU, Michigan State and Wake Forest. I think we would be lucky to land either one. But my personal take is that Wesley is more of the Tressel recruit, meaning he fits a general mold for a body type, rather than a position. Rivals has Wesley rated a little higher at this point as well. It will be to see which, if not both or either, end up in Columbus.
I would really like to get both of them. I think if we get both with Rose that would be another stellar d-line class with one or two of them moving inside.

They are both the same size at around 6'3'' 235, but Walter ran a 4.58 and Wesley ran a 4.8. That is quite a difference. I think Walter could be an explosive de and Wesley could play inside.

While I'm glad to hear that Dubline favors tOSU, I have to admit that between the two, I would rather have Steven Wesley. Maybe there is a way we can take both. Just from watching video of both of them, I thought Wesley was more athletic and MUCH more versatile. Dublin has great quickness off the line and has a great wingspan and closes down on runs up the middle quickly. I think we will need to add some substantial weight once he gets to college
I would like both but to tell you the truth I like Wesley at TE. If Reuland doesn't come in look out for him there. I would personally take Dublin. I believe he has more potential but just my opinion. But still good news for us. I wonder if he noticed we signed the 3 w's and all of them are tearing it up and practice.

Bayshore at Sarasota

Where: Cleland Stadium at Ihrig Field.

When: 7:30 p.m.

On the air: www.kallinsandlittle.com.

Coaches: Raymond Woodie (Bayshore); Bob Perkins (Sarasota).

Records: Bayshore 0-0, Sarasota 0-0.

Last week (Kickoff Classics): Manatee defeated Bayshore, 14-3; Sarasota defeated Sarasota Cardinal Mooney, 22-6.

Last year: Bayshore defeated Sarasota, 14-7 (Kickoff Classic).

Scouting Bayshore: Linebacker Derek Bishop was in on more than a dozen tackles and LB Ronald Oats and tackle Anton Sierra also played well. Kicker J.P. Pinheiro booted a 38-yard field goal and punted four times for a 38.5-yard average.

Scouting Sarasota: Perkins says it's too early to heap plaudits on senior running back Antwan Graham, a 5-foot-6, 155-pound converted defensive back who rushed for 219 yards and three touchdowns against Mooney. But Graham's performance was enough to get Woodie's attention. Sophomore Casey Kelly (6-feet-3, 190 pounds) has a strong arm that helped him win the starting QB position from junior Adam Shaw. The Sailors' best player might be 6-3, 235-pound defensive end Walter Dublin, who runs a 4.58 40-yard dash and has received more than 30 scholarship offers.

Dublin, Shields nominated

STAFF REPORT

SAN ANTONIO -- Sarasota High's Walter Dublin and Booker High's Sam Shields have been nominated to play in the 6th annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl to be played Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Alamodome.

Dublin and Shields are among 400 high school football student-athletes nominated for consideration to play in the game, which will feature the best high school football players from across the country in an East vs. West battle.

The selection committee consists of Scout.com, one of the nation's largest high school scouting networks, and Tom Lemming, a respected evaluator of high school football talent and a contributor to USA Today and CSTV.

In September, the committee will begin the selection of the 78 players for the 2006 game. Those selected will receive a personal invitation from the Army to be presented at their high schools.

Florida produced 40 nominees, second only to Texas (55).

From the Nebraska site...while recruiting has been put on hold for Walter, OSU has crept in front of Nebraska. Those two schools are still clearly out in front of everyone else.

he'll likely visit us after his season ends at this point. we are out of town on both the 21st and 28th. i would like him to come in and experience the game atmosphere though. if he were to get in for that, i think we'd have a commit.

maybe an unofficial during the season and an official after the season. I think that is the best way to do it, so they can have a chance to see a game live and then have time to sit and talk with the coaches.
