DE Walter "Scooter" Dublin (official thread)

The level of football played in that area of Florida is excellent. Football is huge, and baseball starts in January so basketball is sort of a red haired stepchild. Walter will feel right at home at tOSU, as half the city moved from Ohio.

Florida DE Has Clemson On Offer List

By Matthew Pitts
Sarasota, FL DE Walter Dublin (6-3 235) is yet another quality DE out of the sunshine state for the class of 2006. Dublin has a total of 30 offers to his credit, and his performance on the field last season explains why he has so many. As a junior, Dublin had 84 total tackles, 22 which were for a loss, 14 sacks and one interception for a touchdown. Dublin said there were different things that made him the player he is. "I am very quick off the ball and I have a really strong first step. My motor is always running and I just use my speed to get around defenders." Among Dublin's 30 offers are, Nebraska, Ohio State, West Virginia, Minnesota, Clemson, Iowa State, Iowa, Connecticut, Rutgers, Kentucky and Kansas. USC, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia Tech have all shown interest. Dublin went on to say that he had not been to any camps this summer due to transportation problems. As for any leaders, Dublin said he had tried to cut his list down, but that he could not at this point and is still open to everyone. Dublin plans to make some unofficial visits this season.

Dublin states that he now has a leader... and it it tOSU. says he's looked at both depth charts and that Nebraska has a ton of DE's right now. says that everyone is still in it, but he is favoring us right now. Walter got a preliminary invite to the Army All-American game.

While I'm glad to hear that Dubline favors tOSU, I have to admit that between the two, I would rather have Steven Wesley. Maybe there is a way we can take both. Just from watching video of both of them, I thought Wesley was more athletic and MUCH more versatile. Dublin has great quickness off the line and has a great wingspan and closes down on runs up the middle quickly. I think we will need to add some substantial weight once he gets to college

I hate to disagree with you, but man Dublin seems to be gettin alot of attention from the coaches and they seem to be really high on him. Also his damn motor just don't stop.

Good point. I couldn't agree more about Dublin...his motor really is non-stop. And he is extremely quick out of his stance and hangs with every play. But if you watch the video of Wesley, you see a similar determination combined with freakish athleticism. Both have great offer lists...Dublin has offers from Nebraska, Clemson, Iowa, Minnesota, WVU and Kentucky. Wesley has offers from Alabama, Maryland, Ole Miss, LSU, Michigan State and Wake Forest. I think we would be lucky to land either one. But my personal take is that Wesley is more of the Tressel recruit, meaning he fits a general mold for a body type, rather than a position. Rivals has Wesley rated a little higher at this point as well. It will be to see which, if not both or either, end up in Columbus.
