DE Steve Miller (Official Thread)

A bit more from the hometown paper with quotes from Student athlete Steve Miller and his coach.

Canton Rep
Miller is the first McKinley player to go to Ohio State since Tyler Everett. He isn't the first Bulldog defensive end, to do so, though. Kenny Peterson, now starting for the Denver Broncos, won a national title playing defensive end at Ohio State.

"I talked to Kenny, Miller said. His advice to me was to make sure my grades were in order, always work hard and to be a leader.
Miller's grades are stellar, according to Johnson. He maintains a 3.4 grade-point average."

"It's not so much the school, but the fact that the school is right for Steve," Johnson said. "What's special is any time a young man has a chance to choose where he wants to go. That's the honor instead of choosing where you have to go."

"Grades come first," Miller said. "My mom has always told me that. Before I can do anything else, grades and school come first. When I get home, the first thing she asks me is if I homework."

Miller's combination of size, speed and strength to go with wide wing span make him difficult to block. He ran a 4.8 40-yard time this summer.
"He's explosive with great hip strength," Johnson said. "His long arms are able to keep you away from the core of his body and that makes him difficult to block."

The Buckeyes invited Miller to attend the USC game this year at Ohio Stadium. He also took in the Illinois game.
"It was amazing out there," Miller said. "The crowd was going crazy. ... That's an experience I want to be a part of."

I just started thinking about the defensive line in the future from the '08 class to '11 and I am absolutely giddy. Landing Hayes and Miller was absolutely huge. The DE position will be absolutely loaded and if we can get a couple DT's, the line is going to be stacked:
DE: Fellows, Baldwin, J.T. Moore, Miller
DT: Simon, Bellamy
DT: Goebel, Floyd?
DE: Williams, Wells, Newsome, Durham, Hayes

He was in '07 so I didn't include him but considering the redshirt, he should factor in there too.

Ahh, should have done some more research. But your overriding thought is correct. I would argue that we are becoming as deep on the defensive line with these 2011 additions as we are at linebacker. With as a ridiculously strong front seven as we are going to put up in the coming years, we should be perennial championship contenders.
