DE Solomon Thomas (official thread)

Gandolf;1850730; said:
Could have done without the sanctimonious platitudes, but I'll let him off the hook for that for what he did to seal the Arkansas game. Was a magnificent play.
Yes, it's a real shame he took the opportunity to verbalize his beliefs. What's this country coming to if people are actually allowed to thank God.
But I am glad you'll let him off the the hook. I'm sure he appreciates it.

Thomas' pick hard to forget
Defensive end is facing suspension, but for now is enjoying bowl victory
Thursday, January 6, 2011
By Ken Gordon
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

NEW ORLEANS - He was sick all week, soon to be suspended and a backup player who had never intercepted a pass.

There may not have been a more unlikely Sugar Bowl hero for Ohio State than Solomon Thomas.

Yet it was Thomas, a junior defensive end, who snagged Ryan Mallett's pass in the final minute Tuesday to preserve Ohio State's 31-26 victory over Arkansas.

Asked when he last had an interception, Thomas started talking about a practice in August.

How about in a game?

"Never," he marveled. "College, high school, ever."

His timing was impeccable. Arkansas (10-3) had rallied from deficits of 28-7 in the second quarter and 31-13 in the third, helped first by a safety and then by blocking an Ohio State punt and taking over at the OSU 18-yard line with 1:09 left.

It appeared the Buckeyes' 0-9 bowl-game drought against Southeastern Conference teams would be extended.

But Thomas, who said he plays about 10-15 plays a game, dropped off the line as the Buckeyes (12-1) brought a zone blitz.

"My responsibility was to take two hard steps up field, drop back (and) find any (crossing receivers)," Thomas said.

Meet a Buckeye: DL Solomon Thomas
By Bill Rabinowitz
The Columbus Dispatch Friday November 18, 2011

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN // SOLOMON THOMAS

Age: 22

Year: Redshirt senior

Vitals: 6-foot-5, 255 pounds

Hometown: West Chester (moved from San Diego at age 12) (Lakota West HS)

Major: Sociology (scheduled to graduate March ?12)

Solomon Thomas is known primarily for two things in his Ohio State career. The reserve defensive lineman made the game-clinching interception in last season?s Sugar Bowl when it looked as if Ohio State was on the verge of squandering a huge lead to Arkansas. He?s also known for being one of five Buckeyes suspended for five games in the tattoo-and-memorabilia scandal. The personable Thomas opened up about both matters as well as what Senior Day will mean to him.

Q: Let?s start with the interception.

A: The week prior to the game, I was real sick and didn?t even think I would play. The pick was sweet too but I was just happy we won. I wanted to send the seniors out with a win.

Q: How sick were you?

A: I think I had pharyngitis. I only practiced one day. I was about 225 pounds for that game, 15 pounds underweight.
