Solomon Thomas: Bigger and Better...........Thomas came to tOSU around 216 pounds and now is at 240 pounds. He feels he has made strides in his speed.
:yow1: he was already thought of as a speed rusher off the edge, I love how hard this staff works on improving these guys speed and agility.

7 sacks for Thomas in jersey scrimmage

the defensive line led to more than 10 sacks, including seven by second-team defensive end Solomon Thomas. Six of his sacks came when the quarterbacks were off limits, and just touching the quarterbacks with one hand was enough to register a sack. Still, he was in the backfield a lot, which was good for him and not so good for the OSU tackles.

I had a class with him his freshman year. I thought he was a basketball player at first because he was so tall and wiry. Seems like he put on some weight and might be a teror. Any idea on who he was working against?

Apparently all 3 teams. Read something that said his sacks came against Miller (x3), Adams (x1), M. Williams (x1), Mewhort (x1) and a TE (x1, possibly Ballard).

Defensive end shares credit for seven sacks
Sunday, April 19, 2009
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Defensive end Solomon Thomas had seven sacks yesterday in Ohio State's jersey scrimmage, yet the seldom-seen sophomore hardly seemed surprised.

The reason, he said, was that he simply did what the defense has been doing all month in spring practices. When the ball is snapped, he gets after it.

"We try to have that mind-set every day of the week. This is how we practice," Thomas said.

Thomas and the rest of the defense, which had 12 sacks, were aided by the decision to have the top two quarterbacks -- Terrelle Pryor and Joe Bauserman -- wear black jerseys for the majority of the scrimmage, which meant a tag equaled a tackle.

But as the defense hung on to win 56-55 -- in the scoring system, each sack was worth two points -- the value of the tenacity was obvious.

"That's all credit to our coach (defensive coordinator Jim Heacock), because he tells us 'You're going to play how you practice,' " Thomas said. "In that defensive-line room, we know if we're not doing it on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it doesn't matter if it's the scrimmage or the spring game, it's not going to happen. And if it happens on Tuesdays and Thursdays, it's going to happen in the spring game" and yesterday.

Ohio State football: Looking at Thomas down the line

Now that spring practice is complete, I'll have five thoughts on each Ohio State position group this week: receivers, defensive line, offensive line, running backs, quarterbacks, linebackers and defensive backs. We're done with the receivers, so we're on to group two, the defensive line.

Thought No. 5
Solomon Thomas isn't a one-game wonder.

But he probably won't get a chance to prove that this fall. OSU fans should be encouraged by hearing his name, though. He wasn't always working against the first team, and most of the sacks were one-hand touch sacks while the quarterbacks were off limits, but he still got to the quarterback seven times during Ohio State's team jersey scrimmage the weekend before the spring game. And he did add another sack in the spring game.

He was also a candidate for the "Looks Good in His Uniform" Award at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds. Senior Lawrence Wilson talked about how Thomas' long arms help his pass rush, and remember, there was a time when Vernon Gholston wasn't much more than a physical specimen either.

And many were thinking Keith Wells would be the next Leo to emerge.
Go get'em, big guy!

Or are our tackles that bad? (scary)

Adams actually played fairly well against Thomas in the spring game at RT. It was a good battle but I think Soloman is going to be a talented player but I wonder if he can hold off Nathan Williams.
