DE Robert Rose (Official Thread)

Good write-up. Proves (yet again) how great Coach Ginn is, both as a coach and as a person.

I knew on Feb. 2 of last year, on signing day, that I was going to Ohio State. Jim Tressel called me that day and he offered me a full scholarship, so I knew right then and there that I was going to attend Ohio State. I just went through the recruiting process to see how it was and see different places and different coaches and different universities. But I already had the decision made up in my mind all the time.”

"I thought I was a basketball player. I thought I was going to Akron for basketball but I guess my whole life turned around when I met Coach (Ted) Ginn. I really want to thank him for the opportunity of getting me here."

TRACK INSIDER
Buckeye now nutty for track

Thursday, May 04, 2006Bob Migra
Plain Dealer Reporter
For someone who never cared much about track and field, Robert Rose has quietly become a contributor for Glenville.
Rose, a standout 6-4, 250-pound defensive end who will continue his football career on scholarship at Ohio State, had never gone out for track until this, his senior season.
"To me, track wasn't exciting," Rose said, during a break at Saturday's Kimberly Relays at Bedford. "Throwing a discus and a metal ball never thrilled me, but now I want to be the best at it."
<script src="http://ads.cleveland.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_jx.ads/www.cleveland.com/xml/story/sh/shtra/@StoryAd" language="JavaScript1.1"></script> <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- if (parseFloat(navigator.appVersion) == 0) { document.write('<IFRAME WIDTH=468 HEIGHT=60 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0 HSPACE=0 VSPACE=0 FRAMEBORDER=0 SCROLLING=no BORDERCOLOR="#000000" SRC="http://ads.cleveland.com/RealMedia/ads/adstream_sx.ads/www.cleveland.com/xml/story/sh/shtra/@StoryAd"></IFRAME>'); } --></script> <noscript> </noscript> Rose had a breakthrough performance at Bedford. He threw a career-best 48-3 in the shot put and a career-best 137-1 in the discus. He had the second- best individual throw in both events, helping the Tarblooders to a first-place finish in the shot put relay and a second-place finish in the discus relay.
Rose knows he must continue to improve if he hopes to get to the state meet in either event, but he wants to give it a shot.
"I'm just going to try my best to compete," Rose said.
And what persuaded him to finally come out for track?
"Coach [Ted] Ginn," Rose said. "I didn't have anything to do with my time and he wanted to keep me out of trouble."

I love how Ginn Sr. is turning Glenville into a football powerhouse in Ohio. The best part about it is that most of the kids are going to play in Ohio. I love to see tOSU do well but i also like seeing other D-1 programs from Ohio do well unless they are playing tOSU.

I keep going back in forth about whether he will redshirt this yr or not. After watching the AA I thought there was no doubt he would play this yr. But after the spring game I realized how good the depth at DE is. If he plays this yr it will be because he is special.

I would guess that Rose will redshirt. We have Wilson, Richardson, Gholston, and Barrow, not to mention Williams and Worthington who were hurt last year. Unless he's clearly in the two-deep, he needs to redshirt.
