Bishop McDevitt star Noah Spence remains committed to Ohio State despite new sanctions

The sanctions imposed by the NCAA on Ohio State's football program Tuesday have no effect on Bishop McDevitt football star Noah Spence's decision to verbally commit to the Buckeyes' program.
Greg Spence, Noah's father, told The Patriot-News Monday night that Noah is a Buckeye.
The NCAA imposed a one-year bowl ban (2012) on Ohio State, stripped the Buckeyes of scholarships (nine total) and tacked on another year of probation as a result of the program's involvement in a scandal in which eight players received a total of $14,000 in cash and tattoos in exchange for jerseys, rings and other Ohio State memorabilia.
"We kind of knew there was a chance something might be coming [from the NCAA] and we knew [a bowl ban] might be a possibility,'' said Greg Spence, whose son committed to Ohio State on Sunday during an official visit.
"But Noah and I have talked about this and I can speak for my son when I say Noah is 100 percent committed. And it's not just a four-year commitment it's more like a 40-year commitment,'' Greg Spence added.
"We look at it as a lifetime commitment. We consider Ohio State and Urban Meyer family now.''

McDevitt's Noah Spence, left, gets a word of encouragement from Ohio State head Coach Urban Meyer, before they take on Archbishop Wood, in the PIAA Class AAA Football Championships at Hersheypark Stadium Friday.
Noah Spence?s long, winding journey to find a college football home looks to have ended Sunday with his decision to verbally commit to the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Bishop McDevitt?s elite football prospect, a 6-4, 245-pound pass rusher, said yes to new coach Urban Meyer during an official visit.
Verbal commitments are non-binding. The first day a recruit can sign for his scholarship is National Letter of Intent Day, set for Feb. 1.
Spence?s decision capped a wild two-year ride and one of the most fascinating weeks of the family?s life, Greg Spence, Noah's father, told The Patriot-News Tuesday night.
There were times when Pittsburgh and Penn State appeared to be in the lead for Noah Spence?s commitment. And Greg Spence said his son was strongly considering both schools.
But it was Meyer and the Buckeyes who won the Spence sweepstakes, much to the dismay of Penn State, LSU, Notre Dame, Florida and Maryland, in particular.
And all of the schools gave it their best shot.
