Anybody else notice the ridiculous amount of tackles Melvin is getting from the DE position? It seems we are getting a good one here.

Even more impressive is the fact there is very little talent on his team to help him out. On 10-03-08, Melvin will be playing here in Cuyahoga Falls, so I'll get to see up close. With my son in middle school, I make it a point to sit on the visitor's side so I don't cramp his style:biggrin:

Great post! Should be required reading for any dad. Your son is truly blessed.

Melvin Fellows: Difference made in weight room

GARFIELD HEIGHTS -- Melvin Fellows is considered one of the best high school players in the country.

His dominance on the field comes from hard work off it lifting in the weight room.
"It separates the men from the boys," Fellows says. "It makes you more disciplined, and when that fourth quarter comes around, you have the stamina to play through it."
Fellows has committed to attending Ohio State next year, and he says he's excited.
"I dreamed about going to Ohio State."

ESPN - Kennard dominates defending the run and pass - Football Recruiting

Toughest run defenders

What Scouts Inc. looks for: There is more to this position than just chasing quarterbacks. A successful defense must stop the run, and the defensive end must do his part. He must be able to take on a blocker -- even double teams -- and not be pushed off the line of scrimmage. He must be able to move well laterally and keep containment on the outside. He has to be strong enough to keep blockers off him and shed to make tackles or fast enough to chase plays down if an offense runs away from him.

2. Melvin Fellows (Garfield Heights, Ohio)

This Ohio native combines size with ability and a bit of nasty streak to help stuff opposing run games. Fellows is a tough dude to get yardage against as he plays with good leverage and is able to use the power from his lower body to take on blockers. He is violent with his hands and is able to punch blockers and create separation. He displays good upper-body power and can shed from blocks and moves well to get around blockers and eat up ball carriers. All season long, Fellows has proven to be a tough run defender, regularly finishing games around the double-digit mark in tackles. In the Big Ten, where several programs still build offenses around the run game, the Buckeyes should be glad they were able to lure this one-time Illinois commit back home.

Ohioan took a good look at Illinois

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Ohio State recruit Melvin Fellows believes revenge can be powerful inspiration for a college football team, which is why he thinks the 10th-ranked Buckeyes have the edge today in their game at Illinois.
"I think it's going to be a real good game and I'm excited about watching it," Fellows said. "But I also think Ohio State is still upset that Illinois beat them last year, so I think Ohio State is going to come out ready to play."
The Illini upset top-ranked Ohio State in Ohio Stadium a year ago. A month later, Illinois pulled off another coup when it swooped into Ohio and gained an early commitment from one of the state's top defensive line recruits: Fellows, of Garfield Heights.
