DE Jamel Turner (Butler Community College; transfer to Akron)

I watched his video today and he is going to be a good one. Everything grad said really...potential 5 star. Hicks and Turner are both legitimate 5 star potentials, with Turner slightly ahead imo but just based on potential.

I get excited everytime I think about the top guys in the state next year...Add in James, Ware, Norwell, Baldwin, Dorsey, and then guys that we haven't heard about yet, and it is hard not to get excited...Once the DT's start popping up we will be all set...

For sure. The top end talent in '10 is definetly there and what's more, in '11 both Braxton Miller and Shane Wynn could be 5 stars imo. Turner needs to get to some combines and he'll be a 5 star.

ESPN - Midwest Recruiting Blog

In addition to the seniors in attendance at the Ohio State-Penn State game, many of the top juniors the Buckeyes are pursuing were also in Ohio Stadium Saturday night. Among them were the top two linebackers in the state of Ohio, Jamel Turner (Youngstown/Ursuline) and Jordan Hicks (West Chester/Lakota West).

"The atmosphere was nice," Turner said. "The fans were really into it. They make it tough for the visiting team."

It was the first time Turner has been to a Buckeyes game in the Horseshoe.

"I didn't think it would be that loud," Turner said. "It was real loud. All the red was sweet. The crowd was what I liked most."

Turner had previously attended the Michigan at Notre Dame game, the Michigan State at Ohio State game and the Michigan at Penn State game.

"The atmosphere at Ohio State was by far the best," Turner said. "At Penn State it was good too. But Ohio State was best."

Video Jamel Turner Ursuline Scouting Ohio

Video from Ursuline's scrimmage against Stow...

I should probably wait to say this until I see more '10 guys, but I think Jamel is a top 10 recruit nationally, a 5 star at the very least. That first step and explosiveness is plain nasty. He comes off the line a little high but who cares, he's going to play LB (hopefully here). So essentially, I can't find a flaw to his game. I say we can put the weight on later but just make sure he maintains that explosiveness and he is going to be special.

FVSports - The Elite100: Class of 2010

14. Jamel Turner
6'3" / 210 pounds / Linebacker / Ursuline Academy / Youngstown, Ohio
Contenders: Ohio State, Notre Dame, Illinois, LSU, Michigan
Scouting Report: Explosive edge rusher, one of the most productive at the high school level in a long time. Plays defensive end, but will be forced back to outside linebacker because of his frame. Has a good base and wide shoulders, so he should be able to get in the 230-240 range by the end of college. Elite level first step up field, pretty impressive change of direction and lateral agility in space, which will help him transition positions. Possesses the best closing speed of any defensive player in this class. Good fundamentals, has already developed a few go-to pass rush moves. Holds his ground against bigger linemen at the point of attack. Hasn't played much out of a two-point stance or shown much in coverage, may have a bit of a learning curve. Would really fit best in a 3-4 scheme, or at least one that mixes fronts. In this age of versatile pass rushers, Turner has that game-changing ability that every program looks for.
