DE Jamal Marcus (Official Thread)

given the praise that meyer heaped on marcus and the fact that the linebacker position will be wide open next year (with a defensive line that will allow the playmakers behind them to shine), you have to believe that jamal will arrive on campus with his hair on fire.

LOL, did anyone read the comments at the bottom? There wasn't one person that didn't try to hate on the kid.

Yeah, they all must be Rhodes Scholars to realize that no one ever blocks him............... on a highlight reel!!! What did they think was going to be on it? A play where he comes through the line and gets stuffed by the running back?

Haha, exactly. That's what annoyed me, reading what was basically the same freaking comment over and over again...

It's not that guys weren't trying to block him. They just couldn't. This is how most big time prospect's highlight tape looks. Haters are gonna hate though.

I hate to put any pressure on the young guy but I would not be shocked to see him on the field as a starter by week 3. His size and speed are not the only attributes that are very impressive but rather his patients and (from what I can tell) he seems to mentally "get" the game also.

This is one of the first films where I've seen a LB/DE chop his feet and be disciplined rather than just using his speed and destroying the person who he thinks has the ball. You add that aspect to his ability to avoid blockers as well as his All Star game film of himself in coverage and I'm super impressed with Jamal.

I Like Spence/Washington as difference makers but I have a feeling Jamal will end up being the most memerable of this class. Can't wait to see this class in action!

This kids exposure has gone through the roof, just a couple days ago his youtube highlights only had around 10 thousand views. Its now over 400thousand thanks to the media and Urban hype

This staff got the ultimate steal in the 2012 recruiting class

The funny thing is many people think because he wasn't rated high on Scout/Rivals then he was "unknown". The kid wasn't unknown to college coaches, which is all that matters. Might he have missed out on things like a high rating or a possible invite to an AA game...maybe. However, at the end of the day a 5 star kid and a 2 star kid are coming on campus at the same time and their rating isn't going to matter. Plus if it's my kid, he can be rated whatever, I'd be ecstatic that I had offers from USC, Florida, Ohio State, Auburn, etc...plus he'd probably have a chip on his shoulder. My biggest thing with him prior to his senior year was he's not the ideal size for a DE, so can he play LB? I saw him at the final shrine bowl invite combine deal in July and saw him at LB manhandle Anthony Rook (Wake Forest TE signee) on a number of occasions. I was sold...then breaking down senior film was icing on the cake. Personally between that, his senior film, and how he performed at the Shrine Bowl practices and game...I don't know you could seriously rank the kid three stars.

So many prospects, parents, and even fans get too caught up in the Scout/Rivals deal. There's a reason that colleges purchase recruiting services, if they felt like Scout/Rivals could find kids for them they'd just purchase the 9.95 a month subscription, roll with that and figure a way to use those sites without the NCAA knowing.

The key to this deal was Mark Pantoni doing his homework. He received Jamal's senior highlight in the fall and Florida LOVED Marcus and had them high on their board. Fast forward to Pantoni going to Ohio State and he received updated highlights on him, then Urban looks at his game film, and the rest is history. Hiring Withers IMO sealed the deal, he knew Marcus, his coaches, family, etc.
