Yeah I don't care where intent to throw the ball is the ball went backwards not by deflection that's a fumble/lateral/backwards pass whatever the hell you want to call it it's a live ball.

I enjoy lambasting incompetent officials as much as anyone but he clearly said that by rule, a throwing motion is defined to start when the hand starts going up.

His hand was going up before he got destroyed.

But the rule is apparently essentially. Assume he means to throw it forward so treat as a forward pass without grounding.

I don't know why they had to complicate things instead of basically going if QB's arm is going forward and the ball goes forward it can't be grounding. That's it that's the rule?

Yeah. I mean if the NFL is consistent with the application of the rule then this QB is not named Brady or Mahomes so he should not be afforded the same privileges here.

BUT he is a QB and this is the NFL so I guess Young should be lucky he didn’t get a penalty for hitting said QB too hard.
