I can honestly see 16 sacks for him this year if the others continue to develop. Tommy Togiai is going to be a known commodity as this year goes on and I'm hoping Cooper finally gets his body to cooperate with this ability. Then there's BB who is a menace and I love it!

CHASE YOUNG EYES MORE CONSISTENT PRODUCTION IN WHAT COULD BE HIS FINAL SEASON AT OHIO STATE
Chase Young knows a strong junior season will propel him up NFL Draft boards and that's great news for Ryan Day and Ohio State fans.
Expected to be Nick Bosa's sidekick a season ago, Young was thrust into the spotlight after Bosa went down for the season in week three against TCU and responded with 34 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks in 14 games.
The 15.5 tackles for loss led the team and ranked fifth in the Big Ten while his 10.5 sacks tied for the conference lead.
Young also added nine quarterback hurries, good for best on the squad, and five pass breakups.
Impressive stats to be sure, one way Young can better capture the attention of NFL scouts is to improve his consistency this fall.
Following Bosa's season-ending injury, Young posted 4.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks in the next two games against Tulane and Penn State but over the ensuing five games, he managed just 2.5 tackles for loss and half a sack against the likes of Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Nebraska and Michigan State. In the final three games of that stretch, he tallied just four total tackles.
Just when it seemed like he stuck in a rut, to his credit, he turned it on over the final four games posting 11 tackles, 7.0 tackles for loss and 6.0 sacks against the likes of Maryland, Michigan, Northwestern and Washington.
If you're scoring at home, that equates to 45% of his tackles for loss and 57% of his sacks on the full season coming over the final four games which equate to just 29% of his games played.
To be fair, Young isn't the first defensive end to be a bit on the streaky side and luckily for Ohio State some of his best performances came against the best opponents and/or at crucial times over those final four contests.
In what turned out to be a 52-51 overtime nailbiter over Maryland, Young announced his presence with a key sack on a 3rd-and-19 play backing the Terps up from the OSU 26 to the 32 yard line leading directly to a 49-yard missed field goal try as the Buckeyes clung to a 17-3 lead.
Tied at 45 apiece late in the fourth quarter, Young posted another sack of Tyrrell Pigrome, good for a 14-yard loss from the OSU 38 to the Maryland 48 with just three seconds left in regulation.

Chase Young Feeling Good About 2019 Ohio State Defense
Each year there are stories written about college football players being excited about the new offensive or defensive systems being installed.
There are also stories written about players being excited about the long-time offensive or defensive systems in which they are currently playing.
By their nature, college athletes are an optimistic group — at least when speaking with the media.
But when members of the 2019 Ohio State defense talk about their excitement regarding their new defense, you can understand why it is more than just lip service paid to a gaggle of reporters.
There is only one holdover from last year’s defensive coaching staff, which tells you that it was definitely time for a change.
Head coach Ryan Day brought in Jeff Hafley and Matt Barnes to control the secondary, and Al Washington and Greg Mattison to handle the linebackers. Mattison, Hafley, and veteran OSU defensive line coach Larry Johnson came up with what they believed would be the best path forward for this defense.
The defensive line likes that they can attack again. The linebackers like that there isn’t as much thinking. And, of course, the secondary’s memory is too short to recall what even took place last season.
The normal optimism for every team — especially in the spring — was present with the Ohio State defense this spring. Because of all of the changes that took place, however, the excitement here could carry a bit more weight.
“I feel really good,” junior defensive end Chase Young said last month. “The new coaches are saying all good things. They’re giving us all great schemes. I think we fell in love with the scheme and it helps us fall in love — they’re new, so it helps us fall in love with the coaches. They made the scheme around the talent we have on the team.”

Another major outlet has spoken in favor of Chase Young. This time, it is USA Today and national college football writer Paul Meyerberg. In Meyerberg’s opinion, Young is the best college football has to offer this season when it comes to the defensive line position.
From ends to tackles to hybrids, Young ranks No. 1 overall as a projected pass-rushing monster for the Buckeyes.
“Young will be the next Ohio State lineman to earn national accolades,” USA Today wrote. “If somewhat overshadowed across his first two seasons by former teammate Nick Bosa, Young represents the total package at end — he's big, strong, explosive when rushing the passer, stout in run support and athletic enough to do whatever is asked from Ohio State's defensive scheme. He's a lock for every preseason All-America list.”
Young is going to be a fan favorite for the Buckeyes last season. He excelled in 2018, specifically as an edge rusher after the season-ending injury to Nick Bosa. He ripped off 51 tackles and 10.5 sacks last season. His role is critical to Ohio State's championship aspirations with quarterbacks like Adrian Martinez, Shea Patterson and Hunter Johnson waiting on the schedule this season.
“Expectations for the 6-foot-5, 265-pound Young have always been high in Columbus, as he was ranked as the No. 2 defensive end and the No. 7 overall recruit in the country in the 2017 class, per the 247Sports Composite,” said Bucknuts editor Dave Biddle in a recent 247Sports Expert Roundtable. “He played a decent amount on a loaded defensive line as a true freshman, then really came of age in 2018. He could take things to another level this fall, and he will likely be a top-10 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
“... But I think it's Young who will be the biggest fan-fave on the squad. He is an extremely talented player who enjoys celebrating after big plays, but does not take things too far.”
Young is the early favorite for Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, but competition is stiff. In fact, almost half of USA Today’s defensive line list comes from the conference, including No. 2 AJ Epenesa of Iowa, No. 5 Kenny Willekes of Michigan State, No. 10 Yetur Gross-Matos of Penn State and honorable mention Carter Coughlin of Minnesota.

If you wear jersey No. 2 for Ohio State football, congratulations! You were just named a preseason all-American by The Sporting News.
Junior defensive end Chase Young and junior running back J.K. Dobbins were both honored by the publication. Young is a member of the first-team, while Dobbins is a second-team honoree.
Young recorded 15.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks as a sophomore. Both numbers led the team.
Dobbins rushed for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2018 while splitting time with Mike Weber. He is expected to get the majority of the Buckeyes’ carries this fall.

In 2017, he set an Ohio State freshman record by rushing for 1,403 yards and then came back last season to rush for 1,053 yards. His top performances last year included a career-best 203 yards and 37 carries in an overtime win vs. Maryland and 163 yards against Nebraska. Over his 28-game career, Dobbins has nine 100 yard outings and the Buckeyes are 9-0 in those contests.

JK Dobbins, Chase Young Among 10 B1G Preseason Honorees

A pair of Buckeyes have been recognized by the Big Ten, as junior running back JK Dobbins and junior defensive end Chase Young were two of 10 preseason honorees announced by the conference in accordance with B1G Media Days taking place Thursday and Friday.
Dobbins rushed for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns last season in helping to lead Ohio State to a Big Ten Championship. He became the first Buckeye to ever rush for 1,000 yards in his first two seasons on campus.
Young enjoyed his first season as a starter last year by tying for the Big Ten lead with 10.5 sacks.
Surprisingly, no players from prohibitive Big Ten favorite Michigan made the list.
While most conferences will announce a preseason All-Conference team prior to the season, the Big Ten prefers this approach in building awareness for their brand.

Big Ten Announces Football Preseason Honors
Four returning All-Americans, 10 former All-Big Ten selections highlight this year’s list
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2019 football preseason honors on Thursday in conjunction with the start of Big Ten Media Days at the Hilton Chicago. A media panel selected the 10-member preseason list, with five representatives each from the East and West Divisions.
Michigan State and Ohio State each placed two honorees on the East Division team, with Buckeye junior running back J.K. Dobbins earning Big Ten football preseason accolades for the second consecutive season. He is joined on this year’s preseason East Division squad by his OSU classmate, defensive end Chase Young, as well as a pair of MSU seniors in linebacker Joe Bachieand defensive end Kenny Willekes, with Penn State junior defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos completing the East Division side.
Five different schools placed students on the West Division preseason list, led by Northwestern junior linebacker Paddy Fisher and Wisconsin junior running back Jonathan Taylor, both of whom garnered Big Ten preseason football honors for the second year in a row. Iowa junior defensive end A.J. Epenesa, Nebraska sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez and Purdue sophomore wide receiver/return specialist Rondale Moore rounded out this year’s West Division honorees.
The 2019 Big Ten preseason honors list features three of the conference’s individual award recipients from a season ago in Willekes (the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year), Moore (the Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year and Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year) and Taylor (the Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year). Taylor was also a 2018 unanimous first-team All-American and the Doak Walker Award recipient as the nation’s top running back, while Moore was a consensus All-American last season and earned the Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player. In addition, Willekes was a second-team All-America selection by three outlets.
Moore, Taylor and Willekes are among seven returning first-team All-Big Ten selections on the Big Ten preseason honors list, joining Bachie, Epenesa, Fisher and Gross-Matos, with Fisher also earning third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press last year.
Other 2018 all-conference honorees who appear on this year’s preseason honors list include second-team selections Dobbins and Young, as well as honorable mention choice Martinez.
Six of this year’s Big Ten preseason honorees — Bachie, Fisher, Martinez, Moore, Taylor and Willekes — are scheduled to attend Big Ten Media Days this week in Chicago.

A pair of Buckeyes have been recognized by the Big Ten, as junior running back JK Dobbins and junior defensive end Chase Young were two of 10 preseason honorees announced by the conference in accordance with B1G Media Days taking place Thursday and Friday.
Dobbins rushed for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns last season in helping to lead Ohio State to a Big Ten Championship. He became the first Buckeye to ever rush for 1,000 yards in his first two seasons on campus.
Young enjoyed his first season as a starter last year by tying for the Big Ten lead with 10.5 sacks.
Surprisingly, no players from prohibitive Big Ten favorite Michigan made the list.
While most conferences will announce a preseason All-Conference team prior to the season, the Big Ten prefers this approach in building awareness for their brand.

Big Ten Announces Football Preseason Honors
Four returning All-Americans, 10 former All-Big Ten selections highlight this year’s list
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2019 football preseason honors on Thursday in conjunction with the start of Big Ten Media Days at the Hilton Chicago. A media panel selected the 10-member preseason list, with five representatives each from the East and West Divisions.
Michigan State and Ohio State each placed two honorees on the East Division team, with Buckeye junior running back J.K. Dobbins earning Big Ten football preseason accolades for the second consecutive season. He is joined on this year’s preseason East Division squad by his OSU classmate, defensive end Chase Young, as well as a pair of MSU seniors in linebacker Joe Bachieand defensive end Kenny Willekes, with Penn State junior defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos completing the East Division side.
Five different schools placed students on the West Division preseason list, led by Northwestern junior linebacker Paddy Fisher and Wisconsin junior running back Jonathan Taylor, both of whom garnered Big Ten preseason football honors for the second year in a row. Iowa junior defensive end A.J. Epenesa, Nebraska sophomore quarterback Adrian Martinez and Purdue sophomore wide receiver/return specialist Rondale Moore rounded out this year’s West Division honorees.
The 2019 Big Ten preseason honors list features three of the conference’s individual award recipients from a season ago in Willekes (the Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year), Moore (the Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year and Richter-Howard Receiver of the Year) and Taylor (the Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year). Taylor was also a 2018 unanimous first-team All-American and the Doak Walker Award recipient as the nation’s top running back, while Moore was a consensus All-American last season and earned the Paul Hornung Award as the nation’s most versatile player. In addition, Willekes was a second-team All-America selection by three outlets.
Moore, Taylor and Willekes are among seven returning first-team All-Big Ten selections on the Big Ten preseason honors list, joining Bachie, Epenesa, Fisher and Gross-Matos, with Fisher also earning third-team All-America honors from the Associated Press last year.
Other 2018 all-conference honorees who appear on this year’s preseason honors list include second-team selections Dobbins and Young, as well as honorable mention choice Martinez.
Six of this year’s Big Ten preseason honorees — Bachie, Fisher, Martinez, Moore, Taylor and Willekes — are scheduled to attend Big Ten Media Days this week in Chicago.

The No. 1 player on this list led Ohio State in sacks and tackles for loss last season as a sophomore and begins his junior season as a serious candidate to be the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Chase Young came to Ohio State from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland where he was a 5-star prospect in the 2017 recruiting class.
Ranked the No. 7 player overall, Young chose the Buckeyes over offers from every school with scholarship capabilities and arrived at Ohio State with Bosa-like expectations.
As a freshman, he played where he could, but was behind four future NFL defensive linemen in Jalyn Holmes, Tyquan Lewis, Sam Hubbard, and Nick Bosa.
Still, because of the number of blowouts early in the season, Young got his feet more than wet as a true freshman. Following the season, he said his goal for 2018 was 10.5 sacks.
