DC/LB Coach Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

I love Knowles’ taking responsibility. He has 1 more The Game to fix it. Coaching in The Game seems to be more of a challenge than he ever thought.

my guess is we see all new secondary and linebackers next year. ND will be tough…..then 11 cupcakes to beat up on…..then The Game

I bet we see an entirely new staff and program in 2024. I have zero confidence in Day & Company

Penn State might be decent next year not a cupcake. Depends on how Allar turns out

Tressel/Heacock/Fickell would've eaten that scUM offense alive. Why can't Day and Knowles figure it out? I'm truly dumbfounded. Defense should not be this hard with this much talent. Sickening display today. 9, 44, and 35 were the only ones I saw playing worth a damn today

Day rejected Allar, chose McCord over McCarthy, Treveyon over Edwards...

Day didn’t reject Allan. What Coach would not have taken Ewers? Day couldn’t have foreseen him leaving. Edwards wanted to be a Buckeye but wasn’t ready to commit and by the time he was ready, he didn’t want to come to a team that already had 2 RB verbals in Pryor and Trey. McCord/McCarthy it was the first to commit gets the spot. Day didn’t turn them down any of them.

You can't tell me that talent is the issue. How many inferior teams this year made scUM work for it? Look at the recruiting rankings. We have more talent on paper. It's simply not being maximized/developed

Stars don’t mean shit when you can’t stay in the same zip code as the person you’re supposed to cover. That’s been a problem for three years now across multiple coordinators. The kids in the secondary are not good. Different position coaches, different coordinators, same problem. You can blame it on Knowles or whoever you want but it’s clear as day the guys in the secondary are flat out not good enough.

You don't need 5 star talent to not give up 5 45+ yard TDs in a game. That's coaching. That's players on D not having a fucking clue what they're doing. The coaches aren't working with MAC talent: they're working with 4 and 5 star talent. This abomination of a game is 100% on the coaches not developing the players and making necessary in-game adjustments.

They made the adjustment and then Michigan put together a long TD drive because we had to leave extra guys back because the players in the secondary aren’t good enough to stay within a few yards of the guys they’re defending.

don’t let your guy be 20 yards alone downfield is like the most basic tenet of playing defense and if you can’t competently do that, no scheming is going to save you.

They schemed it properly and guys were just massively failing in man, so they made a change and didn’t have the numbers in the box anymore.

The defense failed because the guys in coverage were flat out not good enough.
