DC/LB Coach Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

Yep I'm still a big member of this fan club. Watching the front 7 dictate the game instead of getting pushed around was beautiful against a great Oline. Well done coach. Guess we'll see how he contains a good passing attack later on but for now, he's the goat in my book!

There’s no team in the country that’s going to stop a boss from Mayer from getting at least a few catches; that dude is a fucking monster and he was pretty will contained. I know Brown gives up size and any corner does but he’s just so fucking insane you need coverage on him at all times; anything else is creating too much risk.

i like that Knowles went the corner route the entire night when Mayer was split out wide. It felt like “yeah, your one excellent player offensively isn’t coming in here and doing this by themselves.” That dude has 12 catches for 124 and 2 TDs in 2021

No, a team with a new qb and a new HC is not going to have the best offense the Buckeyes face all year.

But I had it on good authority that the Buckeye D would struggle until they learned the new scheme. Not just from all the talking heads. This has been the conventional wisdom about new schemes for more than a century. Whether or not that’s true we’ll never know. If it was, the struggles were in the spring and in fall camp. This team has learned this defense

completely new defensive scheme

game one: competent defense, which beats anything we saw last year against teams with talent in the trenches

Game
One

Fair or not, Knowles has just removed the “new scheme” excuse. People will point to this and say, “Ohio state did it, why can’t you”

sucks to be them

I don't think OSU will face an elite passing offense until the CFP...

like it or not I think piss yellow m will present a formidable passing opponent given the receiver corp and experience of the qb room.

scUM may have a divided locker room and mutiny by the time we face them in November. The QB room is slowly eroding as the QBs are not happy with the battle. So on paper, I may agree with you, but when it comes to reality and chemistry in the locker room, it doesn't look good for the skunkweasels. And not to mention, that Hairball isn't letting a QB throw for more than 15-20 times in a game, their offense is still very run oriented.

im all for fuckwad losing the locker room and I’m all for their squad undergoing turmoil and distrust. Let them eat each other like the leftover bags of shit that they are.

That sounds about right. I was saying during the game I couldn't believe how quick our defenders got to a point of contact. Can't get going if you can't get started. Even on the big plays we gave up, we were a split second from a sack or turnover. I know it's one game, but Knowles couldn't have drew that up any better and I'm excited for what this defense can be this season. Talent is there and finally the coaching is.

As much as I despise the TSUN, they do have a good offense. Let's give their receivers credit. They are better than ND's, and their TE's aren't bad either. Both of their QB's are talented.

I am not saying we will lose. But this year (which will most likely be a while before they come close to this for a while).

OSU is by far a more talented team, but it's dishonest to act like TSUN doesn't have an elite offense this season.
