DB Tyvis Powell (National Champion)

Wow, the defense is even defending the throwback pass:

Tyvis Powell was probably one of the three most-impressive players on the day. He picked off a pass when he stepped in front of a throw from Cardale Jones that was intended for Michael Thomas. A few plays later, the offense tried to go with a throw back screen to the tight end near the goal line. Powell stayed home the entire time, and in a one-on-one battle he went over top of tight end Marcus Baugh and spiked the pass down incomplete.

Everyone says that these positive reports on the defense is just like the last three years... I'm not seeing it. Before there were never reports of playing press all spring or playing aggressive and fast.

This year feels different then the past few and I'm glad Powell Is at the forefront

It does, but I still would lie to see it with my own eyes in games that count. I think that will become a reality based upon what I have been reading, but seeing is believing (in real games).

Re: Tyvis Powell Updates...He said the safeties are now locked up in one-on-one coverage "quite often", which is what they all prefer. He said it was frustrating during the Orange Bowl last year when they couldn't play a different coverage and stop the quick passes to Sammy Watkins.

Just sayin': The more you see quotes like this and everyone saying how much more aggressive the defense is under Ash; I don't believe that Withers left because he wanted to. My guess is that Meyer didn't like style of defense (and results) that Withers was running and told Withers he was going to be fired or he could "save face" and leave on his own accord. He chose the latter. Also, it got Myers out from under the possible bad publicity of firing an African American coach.
