DB Shaun Wade (1st Team All American, New England Patriots)

I would like to understand this better

Is Warren a puppet in a way that Delany was not? If so, is it endemic to the Warren administration (if so, why?); or is it because of COVID and Delany would have been a puppet in this unique situation too?

I was told by someone on the Iowa Athletic Board, that Warren was told he did not have the support to go forward with a season, and he should proceed as such, unless he wanted to create a clusterfuck of a situation.

I don't know if Delaney would've had more clout to make his own decision or not. I haven't been a huge fan of Warren throughout this process, but his reluctance to speak, may be in relation to fact he'd prefer to play himself, but knows he does not have the needed support.

Look for some movement by Friday though. Not just because Shaun Wade's father arrives that day, but because it sounds like Big 10 University presidents are coming around on having a season, lead by Gene Smith. They want each University to have ability to opt-in or opt out. Smith has been a company man in public, but working his ass off to have a fall football season behind the scenes.

I suspect it has more with Warren being first year on the Job and Delaney being widely known as the one of the Best commissioners for many years. Delaney had clout and could influence decisions. I'm not sure Warren has much of a say and is just the public face. Now that could very well change in the future but for now his opinion probably doesn't matter much.

A day after the Associated Press announced its preseason top-25 rankings, including nine teams that won't take part in fall sports in 2020, the AP named its preseason All-American lists. These lists included 23 players that will not play this fall due to conference decisions to cancel football in 2020 because of COVID-19.

Among those 23 are three Ohio State players, offensive lineman Wyatt Davis, cornerback Shaun Wade and quarterback Justin Fields. Davis and Wade were both named AP preseason first-team All-Americans, while Fields was named a second-team preseason All-American.

Now with no season to play due to the combination of Covid-19 and ineptitude on the Big Ten’s side, the Ohio State football program should honor what Wade has accomplished — and what he should have this season — with the tree.

“I think it means the world, first of all, that he came back,” Ohio State secondary coach Kerry Coombs said. “My conversation with Shaun about this was: You don’t become a first-round pick because you came back. You don’t get to be a top-10 pick because you came back. A year older doesn’t make any difference, right? You’ve got to go to work, and you’ve got to get started. There are things that you’re going to have to do to make this happen.”

Just sayin': Definitely plant him a tree.

Yeah I dont get this....

I mean I get it but I don't.

Him and his dad were so adamant about getting a season and now that we appear to have one he opts out? That's weird.

Obviously good luck to him and he's got a bright future, but why bail now?

I think it was a personal line in the sand. Get it done by this weekend or I'm opting out, etc.

If he doesn't sign with an agent, ok he can petition to come back.

I wouldn't have though. If I were in his position I would have declared sometime in the middle of August when it became apparent this season would be, at best, significantly delayed.

I am confused about the timing but BOL to any of these kids who declare.

Timing is just bizarre though. Early on, season is totally up in the air and they stick it out. Now, seemingly days before they announce a modified fall schedule, you can't wait any longer and declare?

It makes so little sense that we have to be dealing with less information than they are.
