DB Shaun Lane (official thread)

Lane hits stride as coverage specialist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Before this season, it would have been charitable to call Shaun Lane's Ohio State career "up and down." It was heavy on the latter and light on the former.
In four seasons, Lane had redshirted (2004), suffered a torn knee ligament (2005) and was switched from cornerback to running back and back to corner again (2006).
This wasn't what Lane had pictured when he came to Columbus. He wasn't just a legacy -- the son of former OSU standout Garcia Lane -- he was a scholarship athlete out of Hubbard, a first-team All-Ohioan who combined for 3,700 yards rushing and nine interceptions in his final two seasons in high school.
"It was definitely difficult," he said.
More recently, he found himself talking often with Antonio Smith, a former Buckeye who went from walk-on to special-teamer to a starting cornerback in his senior season (2006).
"He's a real inspiration to me and he helps me a lot," Lane said. "He tells me to only worry about what you can control. So that's what I try to do; I try to make sure I do everything I can right and then let everything else happen."
And this season -- finally -- it has happened.

Departing seniors were asked about their experience at tOSU. Sounds like Shaun may have bumped in to a BP member in the elevator.

Shaun Lane

Defensive back

Hubbard, Ohio | Age: 22

Parting thought: "It's about the people you meet, and I mean inside and outside the program. People recognize you and the respect they show, it's amazing. Definitely there is a lot of responsibility with that, too. My freshman year I was in a dorm elevator, and this guy looked at me and said he knew me, he recited my bio, told me what other schools had been interested, told me how many yards I'd gained, the whole thing."

Shaun lane making many plays especially downing the ball on Michigans 2 yrd line. You have been an excellent player and will be missed. Hopefully The NFL can see your talents and i strongly believe you will be playing on sundays.

BuckeyeGrove.com - Ohio State's Lane having special senior season

Nice article about Shaun

Ohio State cornerback Shaun Lane never had a chance. He was destined to a Buckeye.

As the son of former Ohio State captain Garcia Lane, Shaun had the right bloodlines to be a college athlete, and he knew where he wanted to play.

Although he looked at both West Virginia and Syracuse, Lane always knew he wanted to be a Buckeye. It took only three days after receiving his offer for the three-star to commit to OSU in February 2003, saying "It's a dream come true, and it's permanent. I know where I'm going now, my heart is set to go to Ohio State and it's not changing. Now I can have fun and play football and not worry about where I'm going in life."......

Any word on his condition? Hopefully just a stinger...

:io:

No word yet, which is why I bumped this thread. Hope somebody can post good news soon. Looked like a stinger to me. He even got up and tried walking before falling back down in pain, plus he had movement when they carted him off. I'm supposing that the minute a player says, "My arm just went numb for a moment," he's getting strapped to the board and going to the hospital for observation whether he needs to or not.

At least, here's hoping it was nothing more severe than a stinger.

A bad stinger can make you feel like you need to be carted off, especially if he's never had one before. I'm sure no one wanted to take any chances, but my hope and guess is that he'll be ok. Great form tackle, too, Shipley just had too much forward momentum, I guess.
