DB Rocco Pentello (official thread - transfer to Ashland; transfer to Otterbein)

Sportsbuck28;897716; said:
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here before, but Rocco's brother Rocky played college ball at Capital right in town, and is also in the Top-10 in NCAA History in career passing yards.

But, back to Pentello. I don't know why, but he reminds me a lot of Donnie Nickey.

It's not his brother, FYI, it's his cousin.

Mr. Green Pants, private message me your guess. I was one of 11 (I think) seniors in the '94 class (1993 season; 13-12 loss to Princeton year), and one of only two (I think) to play in college. I also resemble Mr. Incredible (hence the moniker; keep in mind I stacked on 50 pounds in college with a steady diet of beer and weight room steel).

Rocco's 33-yard TD run in the scrimmage, while running the Navy option offense, comes at about the 6:40 mark of this video. Thanks to OregonBuckeye for bringing this over from coachtressel.com.

Transferring to Ashland...........

Good luck ROC

Figured this would happen sooner or later. Being a Westerville citizen, I watched Rocco play during his days at W-ville South. He's a tremendous athlete, but I won't lie, I was a little surprised by his offer to OSU. Not that he didn't deserve it, but I never understood where he would fit in with that roster, especially at safety. It's a shame it didn't work out.

Good luck to Rocco at Ashland.

Too bad he never made it quite as far as he wanted, but he has three pairs of Gold Pants and a Rose Bowl championship for his efforts. He can always tell his kids and grandkids about his days as a Buckeye while he's showing them those Gold Pants.

He'll be always be remembered for the look he was able to give us on scout team as Navy's QB this year. I don't think we would have won that game this year without it.

Always proud to see another another WSHS alumni in S&G and he'll always be a Buckeye. Good luck to Rocco at Ashland!! Tear 'em up!

Pentello to transfer

Three years of watching from the sidelines was enough for Rocco Pentello. The Ohio State safety, a redshirt sophomore, will transfer to Ashland University next week.

Pentello said his decision was a combination of lack of playing time and the opportunity to play quarterback, where he was a standout at Westerville South.

?It?s going to be good to get on the field again,? said Pentello, who did not appear in a game for OSU. ?Being a competitor, I didn?t want to just watch for the rest of my career.?

Pentello said he had an ankle injury in 2007 and a hamstring injury in 2008 that set him back. He said he also was battling a class schedule that forced him to miss more than half of Tuesday practices and all of Thursday's practices last season, which further hampered his efforts to earn playing time.

Pentello informed coach Jim Tressel of his decision yesterday, and said Tressel wished him well.

?I had a great time and met some great people at Ohio State,? he said. ?I had some experiences that are once-in-a-lifetime.?

Ashland is a Division II school, so Pentello can play right away and have two years of eligibility. Classes start Monday, and Pentello said the starting quarterback spot is open heading into spring practice.
