DB Rocco Pentello (official thread - transfer to Ashland; transfer to Otterbein)

I just have a feeling that Rocco is going to be a player for us downt he road. If he hadn't gotten hurt, he would have been rated much higher and probably recevied more offers than he did. Kid has the speed and size to be a nice FS for us.

Rocco Pentello and Solomon Thomas - Two Paths, One Destination
By John Porentas

Individuals often arrive at the same destination by traveling different roads. Some people like a leisurely drive down tree-line streets to get to the grocery store. For others the only way to get to that same store is on the freeway. It's like that for athletes, too. Take for example OSU football signees Rocco Pentello and Solomon Thomas.

Pentello and Thomas have arrived at a couple of destinations together lately, but have taken very different routes. Both are participants in the Ohio North/South All-Star game and both received scholarships to play football at Ohio State. Both play defense, Pentello a safety and Solomon a defensive lineman. The two, however, had very different paths to their now-parallel football careers.

Pentello is the son of a coach and has been around football fields and locker rooms for as long as he can remember. His father is Rocky Pentello, Head Coach at Westerville South High School in Columbus, Ohio. As far back as he can remember, football has been a part of his life.

High school football: OSU recruit accepts transition to defense
Saturday, June 16, 2007 3:24 AM
By Tim May

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Rocco Pentello has played his last game at quarterback, but that doesn't mean his hands have touched the ball for the last time.

Fans at the Ohio North-South Classic high school all-star game tonight in Crew Stadium might get a glimpse of Pentello's future. Even though Pentello, of Westerville South, signed as a defensive back at Ohio State, and even though he will play that position for the South tonight, he'll also return punts and kickoffs.

"I am going to miss playing quarterback a lot, but football is football to me," Pentello said. "Just being on the field and getting to play is good enough.

"I am going to miss scoring touchdowns and stuff, but I am just going to have to try to do that on the defensive side, getting interceptions and fumbles, and try to get involved with punt returns and kick returns, where I do get to touch the ball."

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned here before, but Rocco's brother Rocky played college ball at Capital right in town, and is also in the Top-10 in NCAA History in career passing yards.

But, back to Pentello. I don't know why, but he reminds me a lot of Donnie Nickey.
