Bonsu concludes his Buckeye career having never played a single
snap in a game, be it on defense or special teams. Due to injuries, he served as a second-string safety in spring practice this year, but by the end of preseason camp freshman Jaylen McClain had passed him on the depth chart.
A four-star prospect in the recruiting class of 2023, Bonsu landed as the No. 274 overall recruit and No. 24 safety in the
247Sports composite rankings. He was at the center of some signing-day drama on Dec. 22, 2022, but ultimately inked his NLI to Ohio State after committing to Ryan Day's program on Aug. 14 of that year.
Following Bonsu's departure the Buckeyes are still projected to have superstar Caleb Downs, a somewhat experienced Malik Hartford, McClain, South Carolina transfer Keenan Nelson Jr. and freshman Leroy Roker returning at safety from this year's roster. They also have a top-50 prospect signed in their 2025 recruiting class at the position in
Faheem Delane, alongside four-star prospect
DeShawn Stewart and three-star in-state recruit
Cody Haddad.
Safety Jayden Bonsu will enter the transfer portal after two seasons at Ohio State.
