DB Jamario O'Neal (official thread)

I like his attitude. Jamo needs to become a leader on this team. Whenever he is out there on special teams he needs to get the young guys going. He needs to mentor the young db's/players. He needs to let them know the mistakes he has made. Jamo can have as big or bigger impact off the field with his teamates. I know alot of fans have been disappointed and have bashed the kid but I have nothing but gratitude. I'm sure his career hasn't panned out like he wanted it too...the best part is its not over. He can makes some noise this last year and eventually play in the league...he has all the tools all he has to do is put it together. I read where alot of NFL teams are looking at him as a back-up db and special teams player...good like Jamo!!!

There's a thing called talking normally... do you need help in learning it? Its not like everything has to be a sonnet, or as you would probably say a sonnet with a bonnet.

Nothing wrong with being articulate and/or eloquent, but uhh... he's been quite annoying thus far.

He won't be here long... I give it a week before he's done.
He's already been banned. And he finally got banned from Bucknuts. And his tenure at The Ozone seems to have been shortened too.

Back to Jamo, we'll see if he'll get heavy use in nickel packages...if not, it's going to be tough for him to see a great deal of action with Coleman in front. Amazing considering what I thought we'd see when we first landed him.

Agreed but I thought Coleman had a so-so year. He had an excellent spring game but I want to see Jamo at least compete for a starting spot. I still could see him splitting time or even winning the spot. If I had to guess, I think he won't beat out Coleman, but it's possible imo. If not, hopefully we'll see him in the nickel.

He absolutely CRUSHED that kid on that swing pass. Plus he was electric on offense. One of the most impressive sophmore films I had ever seen.

I too hope Jamo competes this year. I really want to see him earn some PT. If nothing else, you have to root for the kid for sticking it out. He could've transferred so he could play somewhere else, but he didn't. And every time I see pics of the kid, he seems to have a smile on his face...he's never appeared to be disgruntled.

Ohio State football: Washington, O'Neal suspended for first two games
Posted by Doug Lesmerises August 07, 2008 20:02PM

Ohio State defensive backs Donald Washington and Jamario O'Neal are both suspended for the first two games of the season. Both players confirmed their status this evening after months of speculation dating back to off-field matters in the spring.

Ohio State coach Jim Tressel had been vague about their punishment, but on Monday promised a resolution in the coming days. With all the Buckeye players available to the media today on team photo day, both players talked their status without disclosing exactly why they are in trouble.

Washington, a junior, is a starting cornerback, while O'Neal, a senior, had been in contention this spring to be the nickelback on passing downs.

With pending suspension, O'Neal's playmaking limited to practice

COLUMBUS -- Senior safety Jamario O'Neal is working hard in preseason camp to open eyes. Or, to be more accurate, re-open eyes. He's already caught the attention of Big Ten Network cameras. Making the tour of conference schools, BTN recently aired two hours of an Ohio State practice, which included footage of O'Neal making a leaping interception.
It likely will be the only face time O'Neal gets for awhile. He and starting cornerback Donald Washington acknowledged they've been suspended for the first two games for committing a team violation this spring. Coach Jim Tressel never divulged the infraction, but what O'Neal calls an "off-field altercation" kept them and fellow defensive back Eugene Clifford (who has since transferred to Tennessee State) out of the spring game. It will sideline O'Neal and Washington until Sept. 13, when No. 2 USC hosts the third-ranked Buckeyes.

"Talking to the coaches -- once that's over, it's over," O'Neal said. "I've been working my tail off in practice because if you don't play for the first few weeks, the only thing (the coaches) have to go off of is practice.
"If you go all out in practice, then once you come back they'll think, 'OK, I want to put that guy in because I know he can make plays.' So I'm making sure I'm knowing my stuff and being in the right places."
Being in the wrong place jeopardized one of the best opportunities of O'Neal's career: he was running with the first-teamers at nickel back when he got in trouble.
"It's another stepping stone, a lump on the head, but I know I have to overcome that and, come the USC game, be ready," O'Neal said. "We put ourselves in that situation, and now we have to deal with the consequences. "Of course, it's disappointing, but I know my potential -- and this camp I really feel like I'm reaching it."
