A weekend visit to Michigan State could have changed things but after Ohio State offered Stone the Buckeyes are “top-two easy” in his recruitment and it’s believed Oklahoma would be the other school high up on his list. Being in the room with position coach Larry Johnson is a huge draw to the 2024 four-star defensive lineman and Stone also grew up a fan of Ohio State so that could be a tremendous draw once it’s decision time

Sources: Oklahoma's David Stone enters transfer portal

Oklahoma defensive tackle David Stone entered the NCAA transfer portal Friday, sources told ESPN.

Stone, a former five-star recruit and the No. 6 overall player in the ESPN 300 for the 2024 class, made the surprising decision to enter the portal after playing in all 13 games as a true freshman with the Sooners. The 6-foot-3 313-pounder saw limited playing time, playing 88 snaps and recording 6 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

Stone was expected to compete for a more significant role as a sophomore, and Oklahoma coach Brent Venables recently praised him as the Sooners' most improved defensive tackle this offseason.

The Oklahoma native finished his high school career at IMG Academy in Florida and was a significant recruiting victory for Venables and his coaching staff in August 2023. Stone chose the Sooners over Texas A&M, Oregon, Florida, Miami and Michigan State.

Oklahoma Sooners are preparing for the worst with the Davis Stone situation

David Stone, a local kid from Oklahoma City, was a consensus five-star recruit and the centerpiece of Oklahoma’s 2024 recruiting class. As a true freshman in 2024, Stone played in all 13 games, recording six tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack across 94 snaps.

Despite limited production, his size, athleticism made him a projected key contributor for 2025, especially after bulking up during spring practice. Stone expressed optimism about his development, and media and coaches have said a few different times that he has already improved.

But, it wasn't all good for too long. Earlier this week, Stone entered the transfer portal. This doesn't mean that he will leave, but that there is a high chance he will. NIL compensation seems to be the reason being reported most on why he is heading towards the door. We don't know all of the details or even the true reason why, but we do know that the Sooners are preparing for the worst by sending out some offers to other kids at the same position.

Just sayin': Looks like the Sooners just "coughed up" more NIL money to keep Stone in Norman....

Lol. Nobody cares anymore if you're only about the bag......just stop with the "after taking the necessary time and examining my options" bullshit.
Or the stories about how God made you make this choice. God would want you to be honest and there is nothing wrong with taking a job for higher pay. Just remember, wherever you go, you usually won't be able to tap your ruby slippers together and go back home. It ain't home no more.

“After taking their sweet ass time about it, the motherfuckers stepped up, so I’m staying. I’d like to thank Adam Smith for inventing capitalism. Respect my decision.”
