BARDSTOWN, Ky. - Debbie Coulter said she supports the right to smoke at her restaurant, but the 52-year-old shudders when she recalls a recent incident in which she fell asleep smoking and her nightgown caught fire.

"It scares me to death," said Coulter, whose husband helped extinguish the fire. "I could have lost everything ? my husband would have had to bury me."

Thought for a second the guy at the end (looking down his barrel to see where the bullet went, apparently) had blown his brains out after the flash of red--then, silly me, realized that would be an impossibility, since he clearly had none.

I actually knew someone years ago (ex-military, at that) who shot himself in the leg. Don't recall the details--may have started to clean the gun, and thought it was unloaded. (My personal rule of thumb: there is no such thing as an unloaded gun.)

I worked as a dishwasher at Max and Erma's when I was in high school. One of the other dishwashers who was a lifer for menial work and kept booze out by the dumpster (hey I didn't have to take the trash out as often myself) couldn't come in one day because he'd shot himself in the foot.
