Darrell Hazell (official thread)

I'd rather see Hazell take a job outside of the BIG. If we end up trying to poach him from another school in 5 - 7 years, it's much less awkward to do that to a school like Cal than someone in the conference like Purdue or Maryland. It's a lot easier for him to make a jump like that also.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a guarantee that Meyer will be burned out in 5 - 7 years, but I hope Hazell is an option when Urban does decide to hang it up.

I would love to see Tennessee reach out to Hazell. Maybe then I would not completely hate the program. Of course , their dumbass fans would not be happy b/c he is not an "SEC guy." They are starting to get over their Gruden obsession.

If he interviews, he'll get it...

This will make the game on September 14th a lot more interesting. Looking back through the last few recruiting classes, Cal has some talent on the roster. If Hazell could turn Kent State into a top 25 team in his 2nd season, I imagine it wouldn't take him long to make Cal competitive. Obviously the competition will be tougher, but he has better talent to work with. It would provide a nice bump to OSU's terrible schedule if Cal ends up a solid team by the end of next season.

I'm not sure that's why those rednecks wouldn't like him...

I think turning Cal around might be a little more difficult than turning around Kent. When he came to Kent he still had all his OSU recruiting connections and probably had a binder full of recruits that OSU wasn't interested in. It might take him a little longer to get recruiting going at Cal.

He was only at Kent State for two years...not enough time for "his" recruits to make that much impact.
