I am amazed by what most people think of Urban Meyer....he has been a head coach just 4 years and granted he has had success but take a closer look at those conferences and I would say he will find the going alot tougher at ND, just based on the academic standards and the recent history there.

Just think about Ty Willingham, he is an excellent coach who can recruit and his current class was ranked #32 by the gurus.....point blank it is hard to sell ND to the top blue chip prospects.

sacs,

I hope you're right... I don't want our instate boys going anywhere but OSU... esp. not scUM or ND!!!

Although, I do think he has contacts from his days at BG... prob. not as many/strong as they could be if he was there longer, but some ties none-the-less...

Until they start winning a lot of games each season, I'm not as concerned with them, as I am with scUM stealing our guys...

MegeWoody and 44820 have nailed this one perfectly. In the eyes of the average 17 year old kid these days, Notre Dame is absolutely nothing. Who are their stars in the NFL? Tim Brown is about 68 years old now. When was the last time any of us watched a meaningful ND game?

In defense to Notredamechief I agree with him when he says that Jones will be a good NFL back. To call him a future all-pro caliber player might be a stretch, but he is pretty damn good, time will tell. But one 2nd round NFL draft pick will not instantly bring you back to the top from a recruiting standpoint when you have other schools sending 3-5 players in the first round.

Walkers want to know why

'How does a guy that's fourth on the all-time rushing list for Notre Dame not get drafted?' Jimmy Walker wonders about son, Darius.

JEFF CARROLL
Tribune Staff Writer

Asked if he didn't think Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis backed Darius enough in the draft process, Jimmy answered simply: "I have no comment on it."

Wow - talk about your Notre Dame arogance! Darius didn't get drafted because he was too small and too slow. Hell, Antonio Pittman, who has similar size and similar stats, and is two-tenths faster in the forty, was only a fourth round pick.

One more example of why you should stay in school... Have fun paying for school Darius... I wonder if his "advisors" were the same as MoC? Bad move and now the kid has to pay for it (or should I say not get paid? Tough to get a job without a college degree).

Two things that makes zero sense about Walker's decision to go pro.
First, his opportunity to be the feature player on offense were going to be much greater this year in ND than the prior two. New QB, loss of deep or tall receiving threats, good O-line - time to ramp up the running game.
Second, when a player goes completely undrafted they surely have some inkling that their draft stock is not stellar. What is it that we hear JT advise the Buckeye Juniors of note? If they can net 1st round then it is a no-brainer, 1st or 2nd think on it. Implication, if not a clear 1st day draft choice then stay in school.

I don't know exactly what the Walker family heard when they arrived at their decision of what Darius should do ..
But his father said that, even with the benefit of hindsight, he doesn't regret the family's decision.
but it is clear to me that Papa Walker at least is in denial, They certainly had to hear from teams and coaches more rankings of "late round" or "free agent" than "1st day draft choice."
"I guess the thing you have to ask yourself is, what would he have to gain?" Jimmy Walker said. "Gain another 1,000 yards? Would that get him into the seventh round? What would another year for him gain?
eh, Jimmy - he had a chance to gain a draft spot, possibly a really good one after what would likely be his best statistical season at ND.
"I don't know the answer to that question. And, No. 1, I don't know the answer to why he wasn't drafted."
The only reason Papa Walker doesn't "know" that answer, in my opinion, is because he filtered out the negative projections he (or the Walker family) heard leading up to this draft.
