Don't follow racing much, but when I did, I knew who Dan Wheldon was. He was one of my favs...So sad, but he died doing what he loved to do.

This ranks up there with Dale Earnhardt as one of the most talented drivers to lose their lives competing in the hobby they loved.
Felt moved enough to head down to IMS...had too.Bucknut24;2014677; said:don't care what anyone thinks about people get who get sad over deaths of people they never met..
but this is prob the saddest I have been over a death (not including family members obviously) since Dale Sr (and I hated him while he was driving)

I'm at a loss for words. Was at Indy this year and was happy to see him win. Great great guy. A top driver too.

And I hated Sr. too (#24 fan), but remember being sad at my young age. This one affects me too, not sure why.
I have close friends working in IRL (roommate...and his father is pretty high up.). It'll be an interesting trip back from Vegas for them. :(

anyways, RIP Dan, one of my Indy drivers :(

Look at the record of fatalities for open wheel F1 & F2 racing where they race on road-style circuits - it's a huge difference between that and what has happened in NASCAR/CART/IRL in the past thirty years.
