Dallas Cowboys (Official Thread)

Cowboys' team website vanishes

As the team was melting down Sunday, so was the Dallas Cowboys' website.

The club apparently forgot to renew its registration on the dallascowboys.com domain and the site was pulled Sunday night, replaced with a generic page indicating the address was available for purchase from Network Solutions LLC.

The team quickly renewed its registration, but it takes up to 48 hours for all Internet servers to recognize renewals.

As a result, many fans visiting the site Monday eager for news about the Cowboys' flop in Green Bay and the status of head coach Wade Phillips were greeted with a stock image of two kids playing soccer.

Pretty nice coaching debut for Jason Garrett. He takes a beleaguered 1-7 team on the road, who has lost 5 games in a row, with 38 year old Jon Kitna at QB, to face the 6-2 New York Giants, who have won 5 games in a row.

Jason Garrett took over a 1-7 team with a back up QB, and all he's done is go 3-1. His one loss was a win until Roy Williams gave up the ball with less than 3 minutes left against the defending SB champion Saints.

What it shows me is just how bad Wade Phillips was as head coach, and how stupid Jerry was to give him the job in the first place. Hopefully, he'll have enough sense to let Garrett keep it going into next season, and see what he can do with it.

Cowboys go 5-3 under Garrett, with the three losses being by a total of seven points. Two of them were to playoff teams.

Considering the mess he inherited, the fact that he had Jon Kitna and Stephen McGee starting at QB and three WRs on IR, I think he did a helluva job coaching up this bunch. They were competitive in every game under him despite having nothing to play for but pride. Jerry would be smart to make him the head coach. Given that it is Jerry, who the hell knows?

BTW, despite all of the turmoil, the Cowboys finished ahead of the Redskins in the NFC East. :wink2:

Jerry actually made the smart decision rather than worrying about "making a splash" by naming Garrett head coach. The guy earned it with what he got out of the team the second half of the season.

Gonna be interesting to see how the Princeton grad and former back up QB for Jimmy Johnson works with Buddy Ryan's son as DC. Jimmy and Buddy weren't exactly friends, and Jimmy got the last laugh...twice.

Cowboys name Garrett head coach

Cowboys hire Rob Ryan

As long as they don't bring in Kevin Gilbride to be OC they'll probably be OK. Ryan is going to have fun with all the talent that they have on that side of the ball in Dallas assuming the new CBA doesn't ruin it.

They won't bring in Gilbride. Garrett is his own OC along with Wade Wilson as QB coach.

The talent on the defensive side of the ball is overrated from what I saw this year. Ware is great but the rest of the LBs are mediocre. The safeties are terrible, and the DEs are invisible. Definitely need to get stronger up the middle.

Jerry Jones jettisons $16 million of mistakes. I don't mind seeing these guys go at this point. What bothers me is I was screaming at the TV when I saw him make each one of these deals.

Before the Dallas Cowboys can start get serious about loading up their roster, they have to get under the salary cap. They got started on that Tuesday by deciding to release several high-priced players.
Running back Marion Barber(notes), receiver Roy Williams, and right guard Leonard Davis(notes) awere told they would be cut when the league allows that on Thursday, multiple people familiar with the decisions told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the team had not made any announcements.

Barber was a nice change of pace back, pounding defenses in the second half while he was fresh. He was never fast enough to be the feature back and his punishing style has rendered him almost useless with 4 years left on his contract. Big surprise.

Roy Williams was mediocre at Detroit. His one "good" year was the same year the immortal Mike Furrey put up the same numbers in the Lions pass happy offense, mostly garbage stats in blowout losses. But Jerry saw "hook 'em horns" - and so did many of the local fans - so he gives up 3 picks and 40 million for him. Shockingly, he was mediocre in Dallas, too.

Then there is Leonard Davis. A bust in Arizona but - "hook 'em horns" again - he's really big, so Jerry throws a big contract to him. Yeah, he made the Pro Bowl last year. He also got benched in more than one game because he was getting his fat butt run around and killing his QB. I witnessed his piss poor performance against the Titans in person. Just big, fat, and slow. Pro bowl voting isn't much better than MLB all star voting these days.

I can't wait to see who Jerry overpays this free agency cycle. :shake:

16 years, 6 coaches, 1 playoff win, 1 idiot general manager named Jerry Jones.

This 70 year old moron with an ego the size of Texas has turned a once proud franchise into a laughingstock and tonight he's flying home on his private jet trying to figure out whose fault it was that his team, that he built, came up short again.

Fuck you, Jerry Jones.
