Curt Schilling Bloody Sock - A Hoax??

Big Papa

Urban!!!!
I heard this on Mike and Mike this morning and apparently this is turning into a full blown PR mess for the Red Sox and Schilling. Being that I hate the Red Sox, I hope it is true.

Curt Schilling's reputation was the target of an attempted hit from, of all places, the Orioles' television broadcasting booth. Gary Thorne, who does play-by-play of Orioles games, said that he'd been told by Red Sox catcher Doug Mirabelli that was not blood, but paint, on the sock Schilling wore during Game 6 of the 2004 American League Championship Series against the Yankees. It was done for the public relations effect, Thorne said.

Eh, who cares? As long as he wasn't rubbing the fake blood on the ball, it doesn't make a difference to me.

I don't give a rats ass either personally, but to Red Sox Nation, I bet it does. It goes to the whole mystique of that year when the won the WS. It also is something that really defines Schilling's career. The damn thing is in the Hall of Fame for godsake.

Gee, that must have been expensive paint to dry brown like that, just like blood. It it looks like they did a great job letting the paint slowly seep in. From my memory of watching the game, they most have added more between innings too.

Also, Mirabelli on his supposed discussion: "'What? Are you kidding me? He's (expletive) lying. A straight lie,' Mirabelli is quoted as saying in the Boston Globe. 'I never said that. I know it was blood. Everybody knows it was blood.'"
